Expansions and Base game

Hello,

I want to buy the game. But I am more interested in the Russian Army Expansion and I have no desire to play the Peninsular. What is there in the Base game which there is not in the Expansion? Maps and blocks seem to be included in the Expansion. Why then I cannot play Expansion without buying the Base?

Here's what you don't get in any of the expansions:

Base game rules
Terrain tiles ( you get a few with each expansion, though)
Most of the French army (you'll get some French blocks with each expansion, but not enough for the whole army)
Dice
a Board (no board in the expansions)
Cards (Zero cards in any of the expansions, and they are essential)

You really can't play the game without the base game.

I was thinking about upcoming 2 new expansions (Generals,... and Epic battles).
Do you think we would need all the expansions?
I am still very reluctant about buying Spanish expansion as I don't see a big value there.

What is your opinion?

I don't see any Spanish scenarios in Generals, Marshals and Tactics.
Unless there is a an indispensable terrain tile in there, I don't see it being necessary.

I'd guess their being 1 or 2 EPIC scenarios that have Spanish, Talavera & Salamanca I'd suggest.
Generally the Austrian blocks could be used as replacements, with the possible exception of cavalry. The Spanish have a surprising amount of cavalry.
