rjvonline (1st side) vs soul1st (2nd side)
1st game: French (10) vs Russians (9)
That was a week ago, so I don't remember the details. A fair bit of action on the French right, initiated by both sides; some action in the middle, initiated by the Russians; and some action on the French left, mostly initiated by the French (the last French VP came on that side). Most noteworthy action: the French, specifically Claparede leading the LC, were successful in taking the BUA closest to their line. The Russians then used Grande Manoeuvre to nearly surround them, with one unit blocking the access to the bridge. The French then played Short Supply to force that blocking unit back to its back line, then played Counter-attack to have the LC seize the bridge, get a sacrificial LN in the town and have a couple of other units put pressure on the Russians. Claparede actually managed to get out of Dodge and survived almost to the end, eliminating 1 Russian unit for the French 9th VP, before succumbing as a decoy to allow the French action on the left that nabbed the 10th VP. So in short order it went from 9-7 to 9-9, and then 10-9.
2nd game: Russians (10) vs French (3)
Initially it looked to go the French's h way, especially as Russian die rolling was atrocious, but even though 2 Russian bombardments didn't kill any French unit, they certainly put a damper on French aggressiveness. The French never set foot in any of the BUAs on the right. They mounted an attack on the left, with HC and LNs, but the HC was eventually foiled by a square, and then it failed to kill the GLC it had reduced to 2 blocks and pushed on the rea line. Eventually the French HC succumbed (in 2 rounds) to the Russian HC that came to the rescue from the center. The French LNs got a double foothold in the woods after eliminating both LTs, claiming the banner for it, but eventually one LN succumbed to a Combined Arms attack by 1 Russian LN and FA, and that banner was lost and reclaimed by the Russians. More artillery sniping claimed Claparede (the second of 2 KO'ed French leaders) mid-game and then both a 1-block French LN and 2-block LC to wrap it up. Oh, and there was a cavalry charge on each side that didn't work particularly well either way.
Thanks for 2 fun games -- the first one was particularly tense, the second didn't look like it was going to be a major Russian victory until it was.
