Game 1

Jfardette (Allies) 10 Banners

Gileforn (French) 7 Banners

That was a really epic battle on the small not an epic map. Two flanks and center were overcrowded with forces and aims. The first attack of French cavalry on the right was really succeful, bringing banner for light infantry and also for captured general. But then Jum made a really good comeback and blocked very well light forces on the French right flank. The main battle went to the left. On time French got back control of the wood, but with the last attack Jim backed netral position to it. Well played, great battle.

Game 2

Jfardette (French) 4 Banners

Gileforn (Allies) 10 Banners

The second battle was quicker, but still good. Some luck on some attacks and no luck on others made a situation when all allied cavalry including all cossacks were destroyed. On the other hand before this, they got banners and made some problems to French. Casualties on the Russian side were only in cavalry. The last cavalry charge by French formed a position when they need to try finish by one turn, here were some luck with infantry attack and with general. Only on general was captured and he brought the final banner. In the first game three were captured.

Thanks to Jim for perfect games.

Round 4 Scen 203 Pultusk

Game 1

Russians (stephent) 8 banners
French (gdnuke) 10 banners

This was a very close game. The cards were pretty bland and each of us dealt with more than our share of section cards, especially scouts and probes. The French did start with a bayonet charge which helped them to a quick destruction of the 2 Russian Light Infantry units in the woods. The nearby Russian Line Infantry and Foot Artillery soon evened the banner count. Both sides had a cavalry charge pretty early in the game and a forced march later. The banners count stayed very close in the midgame, and the Russians did open up an 8-6 lead as fighting was fierce on the French left and left center. Some really powerful attacks (think 4+ dice) by both sides netted poor results due to very unlucky dice rolls. As units on both sides became more damaged, the French Line Infantry's +1 in melee was critical to winning some close fights and scraping out a 10-8 win. The Russians held the woods throughout and the French never scored via terrain. In fact, almost nothing happened on the French right and center right. Steve was, as always, a skillful and fun opponent, and I look forward to switching sides for game 2.

It was 2 fun games lasted each around 100 minutes. Similar battles mostly on the wings. I believe it is a great scenario to play interestıng terrain.

Game 1
203 Pultusk (26 December 1806)
Mark McG (Russians) 10 banners
Brad (French) 8 banners

A very unstellar game by the Russians, saved by a Hail Mary effort where a 2 strength Grenadier and Leader moved to ranged attack a 1 block French Line with Leader, killing both to grab a win. Otherwise there was at least 1 banner going for a town, and plenty of easy prey om the Russian right and centre.

Round 4, Game 2 Pultusk
George / gdnuke Russians 8 banners taken, 44 blocks lost
Steve / stephent French, 10 banners taken, 48 blocks lost
We played the battle in two sessions. Both sides shot back and forth and prepared their positions, and my French cavalry charged on both flanks, and with the follow-up attacks had taken 4 banners, including De Tolly – but at the cost of the French cavalry being repulsed and gravely weakened. In the second session, I planned a bayonet charge into the woods, but George, over two moves and helped by LGM, was able to strengthen both his weak flanks and also bring all his cavalry forward to within striking distance. The French bayonet charge was launched, but it was slow going into the woods; the centre side of the woods were close to a Russian grand battery, forcing the French to keep mainly to the front/left of the woods. Meanwhile George launched the Russian cavalry forward, forcing a large part of the French centre into square, and then followed with Forced March, bringing the weight of the Fresh Russian centre infantry forward, closing the gap to 4-5. Without viable French cavalry to chase off the Russian cavalry, it became a race – would the French centre be destroyed before the French left could gain the woods on the left? The game just went to the French 8-10, but very easily could have been 10-8.
Thanks to George for a great pair of very close games (he has reported his 10-8 victory in game 1), and a master class in how to handle cavalry.
