Marengo (14 june 1800) was created by GG
Hello,
I had promised myself not to do it anymore, but I am creating another scenario: Marengo (14 June 1800).
Hope this one is the last: My life is already too much overbooked lol. This one seems quite a bullrush aggressive
battle with no much strategy but it's not my fault: It's history, the Austrians and their surprise frontal assault!

EDITED: New versions under test!

With great pleasure Mark.
Just please let me do some few more testings. The scenario is quite a violent non stop butchery for the moment due to the proximity of the units from the start. I may move back the central and right French units but I must let the left units under Victor close to the enemy (who will play first) and in great danger because it is what actually what happened historically!

my suggestion is to cut the battle into 2 Phases , the initial Austrian attack, and the French counter attack after Desaix arrives

Hi GG, I'll try it if you want. Base game or G,M, & T rules? How many command and tactician cards, and any special rules?

Hello,

Here is the Vassal saved file for the moment (let's call it version 1.1 lol)

But I will try another version with the Desaix division arriving later and the central & right French units more away from the Austrians but the 2 Victory Points only possible by the French.

GG07 - Marengo (14 June 1800)

The Battle of Marengo, on 14 June 1800, between French forces under Napoleon Bonaparte and Austrian forces took place
near the city of Alessandria, in Piedmont, Italy. Near the end of the day, the French overcame Gen. Michael von Melas's surprise
attack, driving the Austrians out of Italy and consolidating Napoleon's political position in Paris as First Consul of France.

Battle Notes

Allied Army
• Commanders: Michael Von Melas
• 5 Command Cards.
• Option 3 Tactician Cards.
• Move First

French Army
• Commander: Napoleon Bonaparte
• 6 Command Cards.
• Option 3 Tactician Cards.
Suggestion: Napoleon was surprised here, and typically a surprised side starts with less Command Cards and builds up to normal Command.

Victory
9 Victory Banners

Special Rules
• The two building hexes of Marengo and Castel Ceriolo are each one Victory Banner objective hexes (turn start) for the French
player if occupied at the start of their turn. As long as the unit remains on the objective hex it will count as a Victory Banner.
Note: these are called in the rules,"Temporary Victory Banner Objective Hex (Turn Start)"

Q: Garrison counters as well? Garrisons are considered units.

• Desaix reinforcement: At the start of his first turn the French player rolls 1 die, plus 1 die with each next turn (2,3 etc). When
rolling a flag: The French place 3 Line Infantry and an attached Leader (Desaix) on 3 adjacent hexes on bottom left or central
section. He then can order any of his units normally, including the 3 new ones and the reinforcement rolls are over.

Q: So Desaix can arrive on Turn1 if a flag is rolled?
Q: On Turn 2, two dice are rolled. On Turn 3, are two dice or three dice rolled?
Note: I feel this make Desaix arrive too soon, he arrived around 3pm, the battle started at 9am.

• The Bormida river is not fordable. (or The Bormida River is impassable)

Glory is fleeting, but obscurity is forever.
