OT2019 Round 3

Been trying to contact g1ul10 without success. Given the Xmas build up is approaching, I need to schedule games asap, otherwise there will be no games. Please answer my message and/or email Giulio if you read this.

I am not able to reach my opponent scipio1zama.
Mike if you read it, please get in touch with me. I have a quite busy December. Scheduling our games will need some effort.

Game 1

101 Bailén (19 July 1808) [OT2019-Round Three - 1st game]

French were deploying their artillery in an advanced position forming a Grand Battery and also advancing the Swiss on their left. Meanwhile the Spanish tried to focus their fire on infantry formations on the opposite end. When the French artillery superiority forced their counterpart off the hills in the middle the Spanish launched a Cavalry Charge to counter this. The first wave lost momentum but the second managed to destroy the batteries. Action shifted to the French left where the Swiss were engaged in a bloody fight. The Swiss mercenaries in French service were near to achieve a breakthrough, but were finally pinned down by the Spanish Heavy Cavalry. The most valliant General Schramm has been killed during a cavalry attack. The square he commanded collapsed soon afterwards ending a long and bloody battle.
During the battle Spanish Guerillas were able to intervene on two critical occasions buying enough time for the Spanish Army to consolidate its line.

Long and tense game with an excellent opponent. The battle was a much closer thing than the score might suggest. Looking forward to our re-match.

Spanish awaited the French assault, and were fortunate in repelling the attack with a better than average exchange. With much of the French cavalry exhausted, the Spanish cavalry could step out and square up the French. The valiant Spanish infantry could then step out in safety to finish the job.

The French initial attack on the right was unsuccessful. The exchange left the French depleted on that flank while the Spanish only lost the grenadiers and were holding a strong position.
On the French left after a preemtive cavalry charge the Swiss rolled forward. The Spanish HC was reduced to a single block and the Swiss brigade has lost Gen. Reding. While the Spanish regained some momentum and were able to collect a few banners, French were victorious in the end.
