Hi Francois
As I said in a previous response, I will be in Paris this year. However, I'm not gonna enter the C&C this time. I do wish you all very well for the tournament, but last year I found the scoring system rather bizarre. When the time is up, a player winning 7-1 is no better off than a player losing 7-8. Yet, one has clearly 'won', the other has 'lost'. No-one has reached the magic winning total, but it still seems to me scoring more banners than your opponent has to be the #1 objective if the winning total can't be reached.
I recall I had two excellent battles with Miguel (I think that was his name) where, in the first battle we were at 3-3 after almost an hour (I think). It was an excellent game which we both really enjoyed. The follow up, he was winning 1-0 at the end. Two extremely tight games, both of which might have finished quickly since most units were 'exhausted' by the finish, yet he was penalised for scoring only 4 banners instead of winning 1 game and tieing the other. Clearly we misunderstood the scoring system beforehand, but in reality a system that encourages players to be willing to just throw their units into battle simply to score banners quickly without regard to how many they lose is rather unrealistic.
I still enjoyed playing on both days last year. The opponents I played against, and the other players from what I could see, all played the games in superb, I improved my French gaming vocabulary and had a great time. But this year, with full awareness of the scoring system, I don't think I can participate in something where winning the battle is replaced by a series of banner races against time.
I hope you get plenty of folks in the tournament, and I shall pop across to say hello and watch some of the action when I can.
