GG05 Leipzig Epic (16/19 October 1813)

Historical Background

The Battle of Leipzig or Battle of the Nations was fought from 16 to 19 October 1813, at Leipzig, Saxony.
The coalition armies of Russia, Prussia, Austria, and Sweden, led by Tsar Alexander I of Russia and Karl Philipp,
Prince of Schwarzenberg, decisively defeated the French army of Napoleon I, Emperor of the French.
Napoleon's army also contained Polish and Italian troops, as well as Germans from the Confederation of the Rhine.
The battle was the culmination of the German campaign of 1813 and involved 600,000 soldiers, 2,200 artillery pieces
and 127,000 casualties, making it the largest battle in Europe prior to World War I.
Decisively defeated for the first time in battle, Napoleon was compelled to return to France while the Coalition kept up
their momentum, dissolving the Confederation of the Rhine and invading France early the next year.
Napoleon was forced to abdicate and was exiled to Elba in May 1814.
The battle lines are drawn and you are in command.
Can you change history?

Hi Guillaume !
Very interesting map indeed !
I noticed that when Napoleon exits the battlefield that French player suffers a loss of 1 card so he remains with 5 (not 4 as you have written).

Why not Comrade ?
I didn't use Vassal for a long time now. You have to teach me how it works. I'm interested of using Vassal because I want to create scenarios about the "War of the Oranges" between Spain (allied with France) and Portugal also known as 1st Napoleonic Invasion in 1801.

We tried this evening. French win, 18 - 15 with Napoleon, escorted by the Chasseurs a Cheval and the Old Guard got off with a Grande Manouver on the last move (gamey!). Forgot a few things like moving through units which means the Allied cavalry never got going but we will try again. French get the Allies to form squares and slows them up. Other lesson for Allies, do not attack the bridge as ended up losing these Austrians and leaving the path open for the French to get out, mechanics worked well.

TYVM for the report!
Yes those very special rules (moving through / retreat direction / free escape) are useful because of the big scale and heavy traffic of this huge battle! Try it out with the full special rules and tell us! Don’t forget the French Inf are inexperienced: No bonus in melee!
