Are the Prussians better than the Russians?

I've only played the some of the 1806 scenarios, but on the whole I suspect the Prussians are better than the Russians. I admit I struggle with the Russians, or at least the Russian infantry, but 4 strength Prussian infantry with Iron Will seem...better.

Other opinions?

I would prefer a 4block unit (also without an Iron Will Marker) before a 3block unit, which may ignore a flag ;)

If we're only looking at line infantry, then yeah, they're probably better. But still, the Russians...
  • have better cavalry
  • have a chance for 4-block artillery units
  • round up rather than rounding down when moving and firing
  • have an expendable harassment unit

I don't know. I've yet to feel that the Russians are underpowered. Their scenarios often give them large numbers and pretty good defensive positions, too.

The Prussians I believe have no Guard cavalry unit, the Russians have the most beastly unit in the whole game in that regard.

I think iron will is actually better than the Russian units ignoring flags, since the Russians cannot choose to ignore a bunch of flags in a row in a critical moment, especially on cavalry or artillery units. The French usually excel at infantry charges, and the Prussian LN is quite possibly the best LN to withstand them. Paired with well timed "give them the cold steel" or "Leadership" plays they can completely stop a French onslaught.

There seems to be a fair amount of RI in Prussian scenarios though, so the special rules of Prussian LN may be diluted somewhat.

To me, the abstracted feel of the Prussians is like a middle point between the strong but chaotic Austrians and the reliable but less durable Russians. Both have their strengths and their weaknesses, and I think it will be the same with the Prussians.

Having played a few of the 1813-1815 scenarios now, I think the inclusion of the Reserve Infantry and Militia Lancers in the Prussian OB do a pretty good job of showing the changes between the 1806 Prussian Army, and that of 1813.
