Game 1

nekengren (French) 2 banners

Greg O (Allies) 8 banners

The Allies surged into the center eliminating the French LT in the Walled garden hex with some lucky shooting over a few rounds. The Allies later played a short supply to remove the other French unit from the second walled garden space, combined with a Forced March to secure the center. The French struck back in the center, eliminating a Grenadier but the Allies responded with a second forced march which essentially collapsed the French center. The French cavalry on the left responded with a charge into the solid Allied line, and squared up one unit while a Russian Light stood firm and nearly eliminated the Guard HC in response. The Allies then responded with an Elan and eliminated the Guard HC and hit a Young Guard hard. The Allies followed up with a Fire and Hold and a Cavalry charge to take the field.

Game 2

Greg O (French) 8 banners

nekengren (Allies) 2 banners

The Allies Grand Maneuvered to establish a strong line of two FA, 2 LN and a LT all but one FA were strengthened by a good Mother Russia roll. Both sides inched forward in all sections to close the gap, with some firing and minor losses, until things broke loose with a French Forced March followed by a Bayonete Charge to take an early lead and securing the town of Gruhn. The battle raged until the French eliminated 3 Russian cavalry units for the win.

Game 1
Win – Mike Stanley (scipio1zama) French – 8 banners – lost 26 blocks

Loss – Marc Hanna (Grecian formula) Allies – 5 banners – lost 33 blocks

The French started with a Bayonet Charge, with the primary purpose of taking the town of Gruhna and gaining a banner for controlling 2 of the 3 towns. The Russians answered by bringing Gruhna under fire, and they eventually eliminated the French LN occupying the town. (It was never taken again by either side.) The French Young Guard also attacked the Russian right, but got mauled in the process, losing one YG and half the strength of another,

The bulk of the fighting took place in the center, but only after the French drew a Force March, followed soon by other center cards. This allowed the French to close with the Russian-Prussian units and use the French +1 melee ability to steamroll through the center of the Allied line. This, combined with a Cavalry Charge that brought the French GHC into play, and a final French Bayonet Charge, provided the margin of victory.

While the dice ran hot and cold for both of us, we agreed that the luck was pretty even over the course of the game. Both of us always seemed to have a good card to play, but the French had the luck with critical cards – Bayonet Charges, Force Marches and Cavalry Charges. We both enjoyed the game and look forward to the flip side. I commend my opponent - playing both the Russians and the Prussians for the first time ever - for his play and his fighting spirit.

French troop surge forward in the mud on the outskirts of Dresden, oblivious to the Russian troops that have been reinforced during the previous night’s rainfall. Two artillery units and two light infantry regiments are assigned the extra troops. After a Russian artillery barrage targets Ney in an infantry group, which reduces his unit to half-strength, cavalry formations on both sides cautiously advance. Pressed to return fire, a French bombardment counters, catching a Prussian Line and Russian Light Calvary out in the open, inflicting a heavy cost. A Prussian Cuirassier and a Light Calvary led by Rodder crash down from the hills into the French, the Cuirassiers chasing a French Light Calvary down after a series of attacks and a French artillery unit is nearly broken but manages to push back the Prussians with cannister shot. The Prussian Light Calvary is cut off and destroyed in the counter-attack led by French Grenadiers. The Prussians manage to ‘Rally’ and ‘Leader Unit Reform’ two units on their right flank and launch a second attack wave in the forests to the east of the Great Garden. St. Cyr leads the defense and as his Line unit is smashed apart, he is able evade Prussian sharpshooters and retreats to a nearby Grenadier unit. On the left flank, a French Guard Heavy Calvary under Nansouty, destroys a shell-shocked Light Calvary unit and damages a second just before the Russian unit under Pahlen orders a fall back limiting the French attack. On the French right, St. Cyr surges forward with the Grenadiers, and while leading his second unit of the day, he is shot down and the Grenadiers losing half their strength. A French Light Infantry unit lurking in the woods manages to destroy a Prussian Line that St. Cyr was killed trying to break. In another setback for the French, their elite Guard Heavy Calvary is crushed in a Russian assault and the French leader Nansouty narrowly escapes a Cossack attack to join his command to a Young Guard unit. South of Strehla, Kleist leads a Prussian combined arms attack that finishes off the slain St. Cyr’s Grenadiers. Utilizing his inspired leader tactics, Kleist’s unit overruns into a French Light Infantry, nearly destroying it and forcing it to flee a forest. Rodder then crashes his Light Calvary into a heavily damaged French Foot Artillery cutting down the last of the gunners. A poorly planned battle back by a severely reduced French Light Infantry is destroyed by Kleist as his Prussian Line take cover in a wooded area. A French Line attempts an attack on Rodder’s unit but mud and damp weather renders their fire useless, with Rodder and his calvary withdrawing to the hills. The Allies command gambles on Élan, and their strategy pays off, as a large number of units are ordered. The coup de grâce is delivered by Kleist and his now battle-hardened Line Infantry, completely destroying a nearby French Line Infantry in one volley, ending the battle.

Perhaps angered by the senseless early destruction of the Guard Heavy Calvary, the Young Guard play little part in the day’s fighting.

Thanks to Stephen for the game, we were able to figure out our 15-hour time difference and slight technical difficulties as our voice-call cut out on a few occasions. Look forward to Game 2.

Game 1

Jaboskov (French) - 8 banners,
Gileforn (Allies) - 5 banners.

That was a pretty good game with a lot of cavalry attacks and close fighting. Allies have taken gardens, but then were thrown away by French troops. As a result with theri last turn French kicked Allies from the central town and they lost a banner. Good victory for the French side and a realy nice play with Joe.

Game 2

Jaboskov (Allies) - 4 banners,
Gileforn (French) - 8 banners.

One more French winning game with a little bit different strategy. French cavalry has been focused on the squares making. 4 squares where 3 was in one time on the right flank of Allies. On the other hand the most part of the cavalry were destroyed, but their tactic brings a result. Allies tried to do there best in the center but still not have enough time and power to throw French troops away. Thanks to Joe for the both games.

There were some problems with logs, but hope here is all needed information.

Round 2 Game 2

The Russians reinforce one artillery unit and dig three fieldworks. As the French advance up the center, Russian units counter their movement, with a Russian Light Infantry seizing the village of Gruhna. French infantry fire a volley from their positions in the Great Garden, and a combined arms attack with artillery and a French Line fail to push the Russian Light out of the village. An exchange of fire reduces the French Line to half-strength and the aggressive advance of the Russian Grenadiers further damages the French Line and pushes them back. A second volley of fire from the Great Garden destroys the Russian Light, and a series of missed opportunities for the Russians + Prussians in the Center section begins as their advance there is frozen. The Prussians on the Left flank start their advance, led by a Cuirassier unit and ineffectual fire by artillery on St. Cyr. A French counter bombardment likewise has no effect on the Prussians entrenched in Strehla. The Allies start moving up on the flanks, with artillery fire finally damaging St. Cyr’s Line Infantry unit, but the French launch a Forward Advance, moving 6 units in response. French Artillery fire pushes back a Prussian Light Lancers unit and causes Prussian casualties in Strehla. The Guard Heavy and French Light Calvary thunder forward towards the center of the battlefield, threatening the Russian units trying to enter Gruhna. Allied orders are still not reaching units in the center sector, and Prussian forces try a foolhardy assault on the French Right, with artillery covering the advance. The Prussian Cuirassier is surprised by a First Strike counter by French Artillery, damaging the horse and pushing them back into the hills.

In a fatal counterstroke, the French launch a Calvary Charge into the overextended Russians caught out in the open plains to the north of Gruhna, forcing both a Russian Grenadier and a Line Infantry formation into defensive squares. A third French calvary smashes into the damaged Prussian Cuirassier on the right flank, causing further casualties. Despite an opportunity to devastate the French calvary with artillery fire, muddled commands by the Allies instead launch a second attack on the French right wing. The already weakened Prussian Cuirassier nearly destroy a French artillery battery before they are destroyed by cannister shot. Rodder charges his Prussian Light calvary into St. Cyr’s French Line, but the French gamble and refuse to go into square, each side causing minor damage. A French assault nearly surrounds and destroys Rodder’s calvary, but they manage to flee under repeated attacks. The Allies then attempt to launch an attack on the French Left and Center, but a Russian Light led by Pahlen faces a Charged If Charged counter by the French Guard Heavy, reducing both calvary units to half-strength. The French Guard rallies back one wound and their command launches an assault in the center. A French Light Infantry seizes Gruhna, a French Line damages the Russian Grenadier in square, and a combined French calvary attack destroys the Russian Light calvary, forcing Pahlen to flee his command to a nearby Light Infantry unit. The Allies start to move up units from their baseline and an artillery barrage led by Gorchakov barely manages to damage a French Light calvary before it flees back to the outskirts of Streisen. An élan command by the French launches 5 Infantry units at the Allied lines, destroying a Prussian Light Calvary, damaging a Prussian Line Infantry in Stehla, destroying the Grenadier unit in square to the north of Gruhna, and damaging a Russian Line Infantry in square. An attempt by the Allied command to unit reform troops fails, and the fire and hold order merely pushes back St. Cyr into the woods and damages a French Line and the Guard Heavy Calvary in the center. A countering French probe damages a Russian Grenadier and pushes them back, while a nearby Russian Line Infantry also retreats under French fire. An Allied forced march by Prussian infantry units on the French right flank pushes back a French Light infantry and nearly destroys a French Light Calvary formation. The French surge forward to catch the Prussians off balance, and a French Line Infantry completely destroys a Prussian Line, forcing Kleist to flee, and damages a second Prussian Line Infantry. The Prussians launch a final desperate bayonet charge at the French, with Rodder’s Line infantry destroying a French artillery unit, and Kleist leading a Reserve Infantry formation in a charge against the French Grenadiers. The French Grenadiers barely hang on, but their counter heavily damages the Prussian Reserve Infantry. The French Young Guard advances and their volley fires retreats a concealed Russian Cossack unit, and on the French right flank, a full strength French Line Infantry smashes into Rodder and his damaged Prussian Line, destroying the unit and killing Rodder for the victory.

Forgot about the Iron Will tokens on at least one important battle, was first time playing both the Russians and the Prussians. Stephen had some excellent combines arms attacks and played his cards well. We both learned a little bit about how the Garrisons can stop retreats, thanks to RedCurrant.

Thanks to Stephen for the games, I enjoyed them and wish him luck in the rest of the tournament.
