I wish I could play, but as you know, both of my computers have a compatibility issue with Vassal in live peer-to-peer play. Thanks to you all for your patience when playing with me last time. Good luck and have fun! - Phil

Hi guys,
I'm rather new to Napoleonics, just played the scenarios of the base game. I'd take the MT as an occasion to learn the game from experienced players. I have to say that I'd prefer to skip the Battle Cry scenarios (love the idea but I prefer to learn one game at a time) and if possible I'd like to play my scenarios using the base card deck. I understand that this might sound too annoying so feel free to say no and I'll wait for the next round. I take no offense.

This is a default Napoleonics tournament, and there is no obligation to play BattleCry scenarios. However, the default does include the Expansion 5 Command and Tactician decks!

I'd like to try and get this rolling next Sunday, and ideally an even number of players would be great.

Ok no problem. If I'm the odd one ignore my message. I'll learn how to use the tactician deck and be back for the next tournament. :-)

Hi Proyce,

Re your VASSAL issue. Did you lose connection when playing by any chance? I'm asking because every game I play on VASSAL, my internet connection gets lost and I have to restart the computer to get the connection back. Its not the laptop, because it only ever happens on VASSAL.

Hi MP, yes I lose connectivity. It happens multiple times during a game and is very frustrating. The really bad thing about it is that I often don't know it has happened, as there is no indication. The VASSAL support forum says it is a connectivity issue, not a VASSAL issue; which is a laugh because it only happens with VASSAL, not with SKYPE or FaceTime, or any other live stream or peer-to-peer connections.
So, I cannot really use VASSAL for live gaming.

Yes, exactly the same symptoms as me, except mine does it once, say between 75-120 minutes of play. I restart and then I'm good to go for the rest of the game. Again, like you ..... Only with VASSAL, nothing else.

Round 1- Scenario 004 Shiloh, Tennessee (1st day of battle) - April 6-7, 1862
Mark McG (Union) 6
Steve (Confederate) 2

Steve's first play of the modified BattleCry rules, which are essentially the CCN rules with the following mods
- no squares
- ART fires 5-4-3-2-1
- INF has range 3 (range 2 when moving into woods), halved (round up) moving
also my first time using the BC Tactician Cards with the new rules, and they seemed to work out painlessly.

So the battle itself was is essentially a small part of the Shiloh battle, the Hornet's Nest, which was a vital defense point for the Union
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Shiloh#Hornet's_Nest
Bragg assaulted the the position over and over, and the defense there was possibly the main reason the Union wasn't swept off the field that day.

In our game, an early attack by Wallace on the Federal right chipped the Reb artillery, but then fell back from a wall of Rebel guns. Then the Rebs came up several times, and nearly flanked the position on the Union left, but were repulsed and chased off by Prentiss (4-0). He pressed his luck, and got a dose of grapeshot that sent his unit off the field. (4-1) A number of Rally cards had the Yankees bringing units back to strength, and this was the key advantage for the Union.

Wallace then tried another attack on the right, which turned into a bloody shambles, and the Yankees turned and fled back across the field. Cheatham then led his boys across to finish one Yankee off (4-2), but the Yankees rallied and fought back to defeat him (5-2). Wallace then gathered up the remaining Union infantry strength to charge across the field, push through the woods and assaulted Cheatham's survivors for a win (6-2).

I enjoyed the game, and hope Steve did too.
