Round 2
601 Austerlitz (2 December 1805) Sokolnitz & Telnitz
Allies: Tarheel 8 banners (21 blocks lost)
French: Toganalper 5 banners (35 blocks lost)
My opponent stayed up VERY LATE at night to play this one on the other side of the globe, so my thanks! He played a remarkable game as the French.
Battle started over on the French right with a little CAV harrassment and some GRZ fire that caused significant injury. A little back and forth and at one point a French full strength LC got stranded just to the right of the hills on the allied side of the city, and was cut up. Otherwise casualties high on both sides, with the edge on the flank to the Allies, but barely. The city was NOT taken though.
Action went to the left flank where the French attacked swiftly with help of a bayo charge and caused much mayhem that seemed to have the Allies stunned into unresponsiveness. So, to distract, allies charged the guns. HC nearly took out on the first attack the central FA, but did so on the second attack a turn later, itself however getting reduced to 1 block thanks to lots of infantry fire. On the other flank, the Lancers crossed the stream, and weakened the guns there on the hill but were repulsed with 1 block lost.
A bayonet charge by the Allies had little effect on their right flank, but was very successful in the center and finished off a square on the left flank. A later attack with sappers on the central city however was met by a French First Strike, which repulsed the attacker.
The final turn saw the Allies send their 2 strength Lancers over the stream on the edge of the board to the hills on the french right and hit the one strength FA, with a kill, and then continue the breakthrough to attack a 1 strength LC for the final block to finish it.
Battle was close pitched, and the French did not lose any cities.
Fun battle.
