Next Mini tournament poll

As the Open Tournament moves into the finals, it is time to look at the next Mini-Tournament.

I'm looking for feedback on the content of the next Mini-Tournament, and some options I percieve are;
1. An Austerlitz tournament (scenarios 601-606) from Expansion 6
2. A 1 vs 1 EPIC tournament
3. A tournament of mixed scenarios from all the modules.
4. A fan scenario tournament

and I'm happy to hear any other thoughts.

I'm kind of wondering about an EPIC ladder tournament between Teams of 2 or 3 (probably 2).

Glory is fleeting, but obscurity is forever.

I prefer standard size scenarios.
Epic takes to much time, also if both players are experienced with all basic rules (including all the combination of CC´s and TC´s), epic rules and vassal mechanics.

If only one player has only problems in on point, a epic game slow down disproportionate.

My dice are the hell!

Mixed scenarios sounds good, maybe including fan scenario or two as well. Not sure if the fan database is up-to-date with any changes

Hello,
Would be tempted by an Austerlitz tourney ...
(2) I agree with Michael that the Epic or LGB are not good for to be played online.
(4) IMO the fan scenarios are most of the time full of complex and boring special rules.

I would say that most special rules are simply describing banner objectives and are not adding complex rules. Look at the official Gunzburg. it looks complex when you see how many special rules there are but they are very straightforward and only describing banner objectives for the most part. people often get intimidated before they actually delve into the rules.

Sorry for the misunderstanding and my poor English: for me I WAS NOT SPEAKING ABOUT THE OFFICIAL SCENARIOS for sure!
Everything is ok and I love them! I was only speaking about SOME fan scenarios with endless special rules.
Regards,
GG

your English is great! I know that you are coming from a preference for keeping this game system at its most pure and tactical form. For example, I know that you were not very happy with the addition of expansion five rules and cards. special rules then would not be appealing to you from a pure gaming sense.

I do not mind seeing special rules, so long as they are trying to re-create conditions of a battle but not put in a straitjacket on the options available to players. for example, how could you create a scenario for the battle of Katzbach without special rules relating torrential rains and thunderstorms and all but made musket fire impossible as the powder could not be ignited per the accounts of the actual battle. it was a melee bloodbath. You could put units historically on the map for this battle and play by regular rules well enough, but you would be completely ignoring what actually created hardships on those involved and get no sense of the real conditions.

happily, this particular battle would probably be fun to play out either way. With or without special rules.

I think that a tasteful approach, adding the special rules that re-creates the particular's that were very important in a battle, are okay.

it is difficult however when creating scenarios to remember to try to keep it simple as possible. thankfully, we have friends such as you and Michael and Mark to help us with editing !!!

I have actually recently started going back to my scenarios created a few years ago and trying to simplify where appropriate based on having a lot more game experience now and keeping in mind exactly what you mentioned. still trying to find that happy balance with keeping a historical flavor while still making the game straightforward enough to be enjoyed by others

Dear wargamer partner: I think we are close in ideas.

And overall I'm a fan of freedom so it was just my humble opinion and let us all create many scenarios!

PS: my own personnal scenarios may also have special rules that can be looking like "boring" for somebody else LOL: www.commandsandcolors.net/napoleonics/ma...2-december-1805.html

By the way: I plan to rewrite the breakthrough Waterloo (MD18) of Michael in an official Epic size (with the autorisation he gave me).

I would love a 1 v 1 epic, just need to give a little more time to finish the matches. If not epic, would be fun to try a fan scenario tournament. All is good, just love to play....
