This was a toughie for the British, for several reasons. #1, Tony L was extremely patient as the French, attacking only where he had strength, and willing to pull back where necessary. #2, At one point I had in my hand THREE cavalry charges, and a bayonet charge. Given the ideal for me was to hold position, and only snuff out exposed units where possible (which he hardly ever seemed to leave out there), these cards were a dead weight. I used two of the cavalry charges simply to reposition troops, and likewise the bayonet charge for the infantry.

I did make a three glaring errors though. First, I left the RL's exposed for too long. Second, I moved the Guards over to La Haye Sainte instead of allowing him to advance in the centre and hold the wings. And then, I compounded the Gurads error by following up the LC attack on the HA around Hougoument. i did kill two units for the loss of the LC, but it left that wing very weak. This was probably my only real piece of offensive play, but it ultimately gave him Hougoument, the units defending around there, and therefore the game.

I thought I had the game early on, but Tony L played very well and slowly worked his way forward without giving me a good chance to respond. Too many 1-block units in my rear were preventing my cavalry from redeploying elsewhere and Tony seemed to take advantage of that, always having local superiority when it counted.

Well played mate. A much deserved victory.

I finally got a chance to look at the battle. Amazing to see how some battles can turn late in the game. The British seem to have the game well in hand then the French come back only to have the British going ahead. Getting both walled farms without a response by the British was very critical to the win. Look forward to our final match Tony L.

Like I mentioned in the AAR, I decided to play it patiently and try to leverage strength and build cards - I didn't realize that Tony's hand ultimately worked against his strategy where he had to use great offensive cards to move units and try to cycle in cards that could help him. I watched the log file again and if I hadn't have played in the game, I would have thought that the British were going to win hands-down!

I am looking forward to our final match. I will look at my calendar and throw out a few dates - if you already have some let me know.

The three players with 4 wins are in their proper order. As there are more than 2 players on the same score, we now make a 'Mini-League' of the results scored between them. Of the 6 games, Tony Langston won 3 (2 against Bangla and 1 against Alan.T.) Alan Theobald has won 2 games (1 against each of the other 2 players) and Bangla has won just 1 game (against Alan.T).

The Final Round this October beckons and it is the 2nd legs of the Friedland scenario. French players are shown first. The first 3 games of this battle back in May produced a 2-1 Russian advantage with a total score of 20-20 banners lost. So it could be tight!

Tony Langston v Alan Sawyer

Wayne Baumber v Tony Reynolds

Vince Hughes v Alan Theobald

Where match wins are tied, there were pre-competition tie breaker rules mainly based on the head to head results of those tied. That's why some players with better banner counts are lower than others with the same amount of wins as they managed to lose more against those they tied with on points.

CACCN 2016 Championship Game 2

tlangston28 (French) vs. TheMP (Allies)

Attached is the logfile for the second and final game of the championship for 2016. We had drawn cards and started play before realizing we had not started a log file. The log picks up after the French played Flank attack and the British were in progress on a Forward card.

Phone calls will be taken on Friday evening for discussion... :-)
