Despite the pretty clear Victory, it was a very intense fight. 3(!) Early Light Infantry Skirmishes by the French, tried to soften up the Portuguese on the Allied Right Flank, followed by a major assault on the heights. Unfortunately for the french, the British made a spectacular move and totally cut off the left Flank of the French. Maybe the attack wasnt too well supported...

After the disaster on the left, the British started a pincer attack on the remaining French forces, A counterattack on the center gave some relief to the french, but overall it was too late.

A great match and very well played by Mihal. I was on the brink of breakting through the british right flank, but he played it perfectly, Kudos.

I attach the complete logfile for anyone interested.

Round 3 - 504 Göhrde (18 September 1813)
Greg O (Allies) - 8 (27 blocks lost)
Oppi (French) - 6 (21 blocks lost)

Quick report, I lost my log due to several disconnects. Oppi will send and then I'll add, with a battle report. I always watch the replay to remember the high points.

Round 2 - 503 Sorauren French left (29 July 1813)
Grondeaux (Allies) - 2 (37 blocks lost)
Oppi (French) - 9 (20 blocks lost)

The French wasted no time and started a massive bayonet assault on the left Allied Flank, which caught them completely by surprise. Luck was on the french side, since every volley of musket fire tore huge gaps into the British Infantry.

After the left British flank was overrun, the french line started advancing in the center supported by reinforcements from the right flank. The British Light infantry did not get a chance to get a decent shot before it was too late. A second Bayonet charge sealed the fate, as it allowed the French to advance over the river and engage the inferior spanish line in great numbers.

Overall i couldnt have wished for better cards & dice, so not sure what the Allies could have done better. Thanks for the game Grondeaux !

Round 3: Mark_T (Allies) - EZPickins (French): 504 Göhrde (18 September 1813)

Allied Player 8 banners won 23 blocks lost
French player 4 banners won 22 blocks lost

This was tough for the French in numbers. Few on a hill against many all around. Same command values for both camps and some early successes for the French, although a scarcity of obvious kills, promised a difficult approach for the Allies on the entrenched french. However the Allies had some punch on the flanks, and especially the Allied Right, where the Rocket battery was very efficient hampered the french, with a INF stuck in a square. And two relatively easy temp points in cities for the Allies.
French was low on center cards, where the action had to be directed eventually, and with a couple of Forced Marches the Allies could kill of some french stragglers and secure the win. Before this there was some aggressive moves of French cavalry, and it was powerful but also somewhat of a death trap. Many Russian LNs had to die before the Prussians could clean up the fray.
It was indeed a combined Allied force that succeeded here, against a desperately fighting surrounded french force, who did all but just came too short with resources.

Round 5 - 506 Dohna - 9 October 1813
Mark_T (Russian) Player 1 banners won 29 blocks lost
oppi (French) 7 banners won 12 blocks lost

Very early aggressive attacks from the Russians on the French left could be repulsed. Count Bennigsens men suffered great casualties which the Russian army never recovered from. A grande Manoeuvre moved fresh French reinforcements into Bayonet Positions, which supported by artillery fire decided the battle.

Thanks for the game Mark !

Considering toddrew's prolonged absence, I will step in as a substitute for his final 2 matches.
I am however disqualifying myself for any contention of the French semi-final, this is purely to resolve the result for the Allied semi-finals.

Mark T and Greg O, please contact me with times, bearing in mind my GMT +11 timezone.
