Team Tournament

Something I've been considering as a novelty event for a little while is a Team Tournament.

The tournament would be between teams of 2 or 3 players where one team plays another team in a set of scenarios.
The example I had in mind was Borodino, where the set of scenarios is;
211 Borodino - Village of Borodino (7 September 1812)
212 Borodino - Utitza (7 September 1812)
213 Borodino - Raevski Redoubt (7 September 1812)

So Team A (players A1, A2 & A3) play the Russians vs Team B (players B1, B2 & B3) as French.
Team A would have to secretly choose a player for each scenario, as would Team B
Suppose Team A assigned
Player A2 for 211 Borodino - Village of Borodino (7 September 1812)
Player A3 for 212 Borodino - Utitza (7 September 1812)
Player A1 for 213 Borodino - Raevski Redoubt (7 September 1812)

and Team B assigned
Player B1 for 211 Borodino - Village of Borodino (7 September 1812)
Player B3 for 212 Borodino - Utitza (7 September 1812)
Player B2 for 213 Borodino - Raevski Redoubt (7 September 1812)

therefore the matches would be
211 Borodino - Village of Borodino (7 September 1812) A2 vs B1
212 Borodino - Utitza (7 September 1812) A3 vs B3
213 Borodino - Raevski Redoubt (7 September 1812) A1 vs B2
Team A always being Russian & Team B always being French.

Victory for the team is calculated by the sum of banners over all 3 scenarios. So carrying on the example, it the results are
211 Borodino - Village of Borodino (7 September 1812) Russ 7 French 5
212 Borodino - Utitza (7 September 1812) Russ 6 French 7
213 Borodino - Raevski Redoubt (7 September 1812) Russ 10 French 8
the sum total is Team A 23, Team B 20.

Team A & Team B then reverse side, and again secretly assign players. The sum of both rounds determines victory, so for example in the first round Team A scores 23 and Team B 20. In reverse Team A scores 17, and Team B 22, then final total is Team A = 40, Team B scores 42.. a Team B victory.

In the instance of 3 Teams A & B & C, a round robin tournament
Russian vs French
Team A vs Team B
Team B vs Team C
Team C vs Team A

In the instance of 4 Teams an elimination tournament between pairs of Teams
Team A vs Team C
Team B vs Team D
then Victors play off

The question in my mind is how to form teams, whether by lot, or by choice.

So is there any interest in this? It would be 2 games per player per round.
Any thoughts on how this could work better?

No sure, if this would work
More work for you as T-Director, more work for the teams and at last, you can´t be sure,
that ALL players plays their game within a time schedule or plays it after all.

This may work on a live tourney, on which you have all players available, but my long experience
with online tournament games i have a lot of doubts, also if you would play only with 2Player teams.

I would suggest, go on with single tourneys online.

personalny, I would love to see such tournament. It is always fun to play as a team - often much more then as individuals.
And regarding feasibility - when we organized MT54 EPIC Ancients, there was also some uncertainity whether it will fly. The answer to this was... just try and see! It went pretty nice, with 6 players.

The teams size should depend on number of people willing to play. But 2 or 3 should be ok.

Now, how to create teh teams? I see two options:
1) Simplified Ladder system
Let us say we take last 5 Mini Tournaments. We verify best 3 results of every player (might be that some people played even less then 3 MTs, that si fine, simply lower in the ladder), do the ladder, group first with last, 2nd with one prior to last, etc...

2) Seeded approach (my prefference)
Again, based on results from MTs, we crate group of seeded players (equal to number of teams). And then we do lot.

Instead of a team-tournament, i looking forward to the official CCN Epic version.
And then i would prefer, to play periodical a multiplayer epic game as it´s done on MM44 already since many years

The MM44 overlord games have always a lot of fun, sadly, in meantime MM44 have so many (small but to much) rules, so i can´t remember all the rules again (which caused me to stop playing MM44)

so MT14 is complete, MT15, the feeling seems to be wait till Exp.5

so I return now to this Team Tournament concept as the interlude entertainment.
Who is interested?

I am up for anything - Team Tournament would be fun. I would suggest random assignment for the teams.

Put me down as a volunteer. I'm on GMT time, so would either be able to play US opponents at the start of the afternoon and evenings my time. That would translate to early morning and afternoons for most US players.

Maybe i join last-minute in September, if the tourney is not started before, but
before that, i can´t join any tournament.
