Semi-finals
Brad vs Bernard (Tarheel vs Darth Ben)
The first battle, Darth Ben took the French and I the hapless Prussians. Immediate French FM to the center forced change of possession of the village. Counterattack at good odds on the hills saw a FR flag result against cav CA attack, which set the tone for rest of battle. Battle mainly fought on the flanks with some cav battles in middle game. Blucher managed to get trampled for 2 banners to the French. Allies stabilized things briefly at 7 banners to 2, but a timely Bombard card from the FR put the central artillery on the hills. This was trouble. Bayonet charges both sides sequentially came out better for the FR and without an order to pull out, a weakend prussian unit took last hit to end it.
Bernard (France): 10 banners
Brad (Prussian): 4 banners
The second battle, Tarheel gets the good guys, and Darth Ben the evil Prussians. Things looked bad for the good guys, drawing nothing in the center. FR attack had to start from both flanks. CAV charge on the lone prussian HA severely weakened it, and it was forced to withdraw for rest of battle. GR units made heroes of themselves as the FR moved on the flanks, by shooting at the surrounding FR units. A timely draw of a Force March allowed the FR to FINALLY attack in the center. 6 dice, 2 casualties and a 3 dice counterattack from the heroic GR was 3 hits. The battle, after finally capturing the village, moved to the flanks. FR had lots of cards for that. Advance on the FR right was lucky as FR survived 2 cav charges and managed to, with great trouble, clear the allied left flank of units. Battle then moved to the opposite flank where FR survived cavalry attacks on their FA unit. Eventually, FR LC was able to convince an allied GR to enter square, where it was then hit next turn by a Force march and destroyed for the last banner.
Bernard (Allies): 2 banners
Brad (French): 10 banners
Plenty of bad luck for both of us to pass around, and the hapless Prussians took the beating both times. I keep feeling like Prussians should be able to do better, but that 4 cards is a @$#(
