Round 5
EYLAU - 8AM TO NOON (8 FEBRUARY 1807)
theimann (Allies) 7 Banners won, 22 blocks lost
Mark McG (French) 4 Banners won, 34 blocks lost

The Russians were unprepared for an early French infantry charge; ground was stood and the Russians soon realized they were up against the Grande Arme.
The French Right struck hard, but was repelled by artillery bombardment. The French right flank was sewn up by cavalry for most of the morning, throwing the French command into disarray.
Meanwhile, French infantry were moving on their left and captured a hill. After the Russians regrouped and counter attacked, the French looked ragged. Some desperate cavalry charges were exchanged, but when Davout was killed in action, the French lost heart.
Also, the dice were loving the Russians.

Think I knew how the game would go on the first die roll.. 5d, no hits. Miserable dice.

MT11
Round 5
Eylau 8AM til Noon
Tarheel (french)
Michalxo (russian)

Result
French 7 casualties 19
Russian 3 casualties 26

Battle raged on the Russian right flank initially, but a the winds of luck played heavily in favor for the FR to quiet that sector down, with both sides beat down. The battle then moved to the center, where Russian artillery made tons of noise, but couldn't seem to hit anything, which summed up the entire battle. FR counterattack had periods of sputtering alternating with success. The Russians left the battle requesting new dice from their Tzar, I have no doubt.

Round 4

201 CZARNOWO (23 DECEMBER 1806)

Grondeaux (Russian) 1 banner, 23 blocks lost
Mark McG (French) 7 banners, 7 blocks lost

Czarnowo appears to be a tough nut to crack, and as the French I was careful to ease up into position in the Centre, greatly assisted by some effective artillery fire. The French infantry moved up, and played Élan to good effect, and good effect again when I immediately re-drew the Élan card after the reshuffle.

Artillery claimed the first 3 banners (2 LT & a GR), and a Cavalry Light Infantry combo got a 4th when they squared up. The attack then stalled for lack of Centre cards, but a Forced March, and then Bayonet Charge took the hill and finished off the other 2 LT. 7th banner was the taken hill, and the Russians got a banner for Czarnowo town.

I was real happy with my play in this scenario. Decent cards & dice. (mdg) (mdg) (mdg)

Round 3 - 304 ELCHINGEN (14 OCTOBER 1805)
Mark McG French 7 banners - 19 blocks lost
Viridovilas Austrian 5 banners- 25 blocks lost

French started confidently in the Centre, racing into the town. Gradual whittling of Austrians with firepower, and a small cavalry raid. Austrians struck back with a centre attack, which slaughtered the cavalry, but was bloodily repulsed. French have a 4-1 lead. In an effort to secure the win, a Bayonet charge on the abbey goes off, but isn't successful enough.

Then one of the most devastating cavalry charges it has been my misfortune to receive. 3 artillery units annihilated. Austrian cavalry everywhere. French have a consolidation to save a leader & unit, and to attack the Abbey again. Fail to kill the remaining Grenadier, loosing Roguet in reply. Austrians leading 5-4!!

Fortunately the Austrian cavalry has no follow through, and a second bayonet charge secures the abbey, kills the Grenadier and a Horse artillery for a final French victory. A great match, where victory came and went with each card.

Round 2
Wertigen

Theimann (Austrian) 2 Banners won, 22 blocks lost
Greg O (French) 5 Banners won, 23 blocks lost

Very aggressive play on both sides with tons of close combat. The Austrians left two French units at 1 block, so the game was closer than the 5-2 result.

Round 5 Eylau

Trout - Allies - 7 Flags, 25 Blocks lost
Klopik -French - 5 Flags, 29 Blocks lost

Good French use of their Light infantry and French advances in the center and right. The Russians had some great cards though, 2 calvary charges and a bayonet charge with the Grenadiers gave the Russians the win. I forgot to do the log, sorry.

Klopik - will you please confirm the above game score, thanks.

Round 2
Wertingen

Tarheel - French - 5 banners & 17 casualties
Grondeaux - Austrians - 3 banners & 24 casualties

Battle started off decidedly in the French favor on right flank, but too much of a good thing and overconfidence sent a Grenadier to his death behind enemy lines. Good late campaign shooting by the Austrians started to increase the FR bleeding, but the battle finally came to a close with a FR counterattack along the left, taking out a rogue Lt Cav unit.

Really strange battle to fight with all that cav!
