Round 2
Wertigen
Michalxo (Austrian) 2 Banners won, 29 blocks lost
Mark McG (French) 5 Banners won, 13 blocks lost

French left flank failed early, with two French Light Cavalry lost early. From there it was all a French show, with the French infantry driving back the Austrian infantry, and the French Cavalry running amuck on the Centre. The dice were not the Austrian friend towards the end.

Round 3 - 304 ELCHINGEN (14 OCTOBER 1805)
Code:
Scipio French 6 - 34 blocks lost Michalxo Austrian 7 - 29 blocks lost

Battle commentary
It was a really brutal fight, mainly on powerful center attacks by cavalries from both sides. Supported from distance by artillery and close hand to hand combat. When Austrian army looked really weaken and commander was really thinking of capitulation, a miracle happen. French got a bit less enthusiastic about their attacks and missed a few very needed little combats. Later on, it showed up as these little things decided the battle in favor of Austrians.

It was a really enjoyable match. Turned out to be a real surprise for Austrians. Luck swinging back and forth.
Thank you Stephen again for an outstanding game. These are the games we would remember. I think... :)

Tarheel vs Trout
Czarnowo
Round 4

Tarheel (french) 7 banners/13 blocks lost
Trout (russian) 1 banner/26 blocks lost

There was some rather bloody initial ranged fire from the fr LI on the french right flank which together with a lack of command control over there slowed things down on that flank. Exchange of artillery fire on the opposite flank pinged some units leading to little activity. The real issue was intense fighting in the middle. A French Bayonet charge on the hills chased the Russians from the hilltops. A timely charge from the Russian Hv Cur and some Cossacks hit the french on their right side on the hills, but a very very tough French Line unit bounced the Heavy Cav, setting up a devastating counterattack on units at the base of the hills on reverse slope.

This could have gone either way absolutely. The Cavalry had put the french into a vice which was going to lead to major casualties, but for the French heroics, allowing them to leave square and counterattack. It was a much closer affair than you would glean from the score.

Tarheel vs theImann

Elchingen
Round 3
Tarheel fr 7 Flags / 13 casualties
theImann au 2 Flags / 24 casualties

FIRST THINGS FIRST! There is an error in the scenario file for CCN. The GR Austrian unit is missing, behind the hills. It is shown in the book. We added it at the beginning.

The battle started in the center and ended there. The Austrians were hamstrung with a lack of orders in the center most of the battle, and had to take their offensive mainly from their left wing. Unfortunately, the French were very agressive on the right side of their own center and could defend against the wing push and kept the fighting heavily around Elchingen. French heavy cavalry caused heavy damage to Austrian CU, LC and GR units, charging from place to place. Bad fortune followed the Austrians most of the day, with the loss of both Laudon and Mescery. French artillery proved most ineffective throughout the entire day. Austrians had a parting shot on their right-center as A LN unit used leadership to gun down an LC unit in one nasty shot with 6d. Elan went hands down to the French Cavalry and some sharpshooting snipers though today.

Round 2
Wertingen

Scipio 4 Flags 30 blocks lost
Trout 5 Flags 26 Blocks lost

Lots of French calvary running around picking off blocks and overrunning the Austrian Artillery. But they do take some losses. At game end the Austrians withstand a bayonet charge and assault back for the win. Powerful French force yet brittle. Fun, fast game.
Thanks Scipio.

Round 1
GÜNZBURG
Trout (Allies) 2 banners, 31 blocks lost
Mark McG (French) 7 banners, 15 blocks lost

the initial French move wiped out the Austrian artillery on the island, and put the LT into square.
The Austrians reinforced the island, and in the end this became a Austrian graveyard, with 4 dead units.

Paralysis on the French left meant that the narrow right path became the French attack avenue, using short supply to clear the defender. A brutal skirmish saw 2 dead Austrian units, and 1 dead French.

Meanwhile the Austrians were crossing the Danube on the French left, driving back and eliminating a French LT. The lone leader led LN counterattacked, and finished off the 7th Austrian unit, which is just as well, because it looked bad over there.

Glory is fleeting, but obscurity is forever.

Round 4

201 CZARNOWO (23 DECEMBER 1806)

theimann (Allies) 7 won, 26 blocks lost
Klopik (French) 5 won, 28 blocks lost

After some initial manoeuvrings the Russians shored up the village of Czarnowo, a surprise French cavalry charge destroyed some elite Russian troops along with Marshal Sukin.

Soon after a French forced march engaged the Russian right in heavy action, a counter attack with bayonets left the French in the lurch and it seemed the end was close, a Russian victory was at hand. The regrouped French ranks let loose concentrated volleys that made the Russians think twice about pressing the attack.

The rest of the day saw Russian cavalry throwing the French command structure scrambling, but not enough to stop French counter attacks that bled the Russians white.

In the end the French could not sustain pursuit under the heavy bombardment from the Russian redoubts.

(klopik, can you post the vlog?)
