Some thoughts on Corunna

We got a few games of Command & Colours: Napoleonics in last week, playing the Corunna scenario. It was a first time playing Napoleonics for one of the players, both of whom were experienced Command & Colours players. The results were interesting.

A few thoughts on the history.

Our experience of play.

Welcome to the family Conrad, and I love your Blog. I liked you reference to Sharp in the history post. My rules for Sharp in CC:N

Any Leader attached to rifles is Sharp.
Sharp unit may ignore all hits.
If Sharp Unit comes within 3 hexes of any friendly leader, the unit is immediately disbanded and counts as a French Banner.

;)

I couldn't open the Sir John Moore in fact, poetry and fiction. Link

Much obliged for your kind words old chap.

Sir John Moore in fact, fiction and poetry

This fixed URL should do the trick.

I'm afraid I haven't had much chance to play CC:N of late as I've been very busy at work sadly. The eventual plan is to play with 20mm figures on a mat with five inch hexes, though I'm thinking of putting together a "travel set" using 2mm figures (I don't like blocks very much). I gave the idea a test run and it looked a bit like this.

Command & Colours: Napoleonics - Travel Edition

I use miniatures from an old RISK set that are approximately 10mm.
They fit perfectly on the board, paint up easily and have no fiddly details that can break off.
With a bit of 3D terrain you really get the feel of playing a miniatures game, with lines of colorful troops facing each other in battle and it is still one figure per hit, so no need for hit markers or having to fit several stands into a hex.

The ancients version I still use the Blocks. I have 25 boxes of HAT 1:72 figures sitting there waiting for paint and a place on the Ancients board, but the blocks work fine and painting all that detail is a daunting task.

Napoleonic, however, cried out for miniatures and I just happened to have the RISK game sitting idle.

Thanks for the updated link :)

Cheers

A photo taken yesterday from our session at Corunna :

After a few moves, the British got the first banner but finished the game loosing 6-4 : essentially due to a bad move during middle game, from the British Grenadier Guard unit, immediatly exploited by the French (no error allowed with Hawkmoon)..;)

the game lasts about 2 hours, so the revenge game will be next week..

Cheers,

Alea jacta est...
