Solo Rules was created by Wealleans

Use a second blue deck for the AI. (Or use the blue deck for the AI and the green deck for yourself. Adjust the green deck as required).
Sort blue AI Command cards into 4 piles:
Left flank
Right flank
Centre
Tactic Cards
Coordinated advance goes into Centre pile.
Flank attack: 1 into Left flank pile, 1 Right flank pile.
Recon in Force and Forward add to Tactic cards pile.
Shuffle each pile.
Randomly remove 1 card from each Left, Right and Centre piles unseen and add to Tactics pile. Shuffle this pile and distribute this deck evenly into Left, Right and Centre section piles. Shuffle all 3 piles again.
Put each pile on the AI side of the board in the correct area. Left, Centre, and Right sections.
Game play:
When you play a section card and resolve it, the AI will play a card from the pile matching that board section. Example: You play a Scout Left card. AI on its turn will play a card from the Right section pile.
The scenario’s command card hand size rules still apply for the AI with regard to Assault cards and forming Square’s etc.
If the AI draws a card it cannot use, Eg ‘Give Them the Cold Steel’ when there are no adjacent units, discard the card and redraw. (Or shuffle it back into the pile).
If the AI draws the First Strike card, put this to one side. And re-draw another card for this turn. Then at the next available opportunity to use it, roll a die and it will be used on a Crossed Swords symbol and the symbol of the attacking unit.
If you have used a multiple section card, or a Tactic card on your turn, like the Leadership card. On the AI’s turn draw a card from the section that it has the most units. (Don’t count lone leaders). In the event of a tie, role a D6 to determine the tie-breaker. This rule will also be used if the AI has the first turn of the game. Example: You play Flank Attack. On the AI’s turn it’ will play a card from either the left or right section depending on what side has the most units.
If the Elan card is played by the AI reshuffle the piles again, as above.
If the AI is using Iron Will tokens (Prussian), use them at the first available opportunity.
Make the best AI move from the card drawn.
Notes:
This method will give the human player a tough challenge, as the AI will usually play in the area where the action is happening, but you won’t really know for sure, not having seen any of its cards.

As it says "Play AI cards in the best way you can".
It's a good system for making the AI opponent react in the correct section of the battlefield, either respond to you or activate a large force to do something which will force a reaction. The downside is no AI battlefield strategy i.e. management of the hand of cards, and that the AI will always discern your plan and double guess you.
But it does half the job and at least it is likely that the AI will be able to cause you some trouble.

After trying various solo rules that I have come across, I wanted to try to create an AI that played smarter, but still create a little randomness at the same time. You will never create an AI that is as smart as a good human player, but with this system the AI will usually play in an area where the 'action' is at present time. It is also the only AI system that has beaten me on more than one occasion, and will usually create a closer and more exciting game.

When I play solo I just play one side and then get up and walk around to the other side of the table and play that side. I play each side, each time, to the best of my ability. I do my best to play only the hand in front of me and not think about what the other side has. The only time this is a problem is when I know one side has a First Strike card. I have thought about removing it from the deck, but it has only caused an issue a couple of times, and then I just played the attack as I would have normally, even though I knew the other side had that First Strike card.
This seems to work out fine for me, and my opponent seems to always be a pretty sharp fellow.

Thanks for the reply.
I have played it in a similar fashion before, but i didn't like how you can see all the cards in both sides hands, as it influences your decision making. I prefer an opponent, albeit an A.I. one.
Also my A.I. never gets a First Strike card, but can get Take Command cards instead.

I play the solo game the same as proyce and actung panzer but any new command or tactics cards taken at the end of the turn are not revealed until it's that sides turn again. I agree the first strike is hardest solo card so if I use this for one side I roll a D6 and on 1 to 3 it is played normally and 4 to 6 have to wait for another turn. It adds some randomness

I play solo in a similar way to proyce and it makes a pretty good game. The main points to note to make it work I find are to:
  1. Once you finish your turn flip your remaining cards face down and draw your replacement card and do not look at it before swapping sides.
  2. Remove the first strike card as the element of surprise is lost and you want to be playing the hand in front of you and not remind yourself of "your opponents" hand.

By not looking at the drawn card it means there is always a chance the opponent will have something up his sleeve that you haven't bargained for to put a spanner in the works of your best laid plan.

The above plays pretty well, but just thinking out loud as I type... perhaps to increase the fog of war when playing solo. At the end of each sides turn instead of simply drawing a replacement card, with your hand face down you could randomly replace one of your hand to the bottom of the draw deck and then draw two new cards to your hand (keeping them both face down) from the draw deck, one for the card you used and discarded that turn and one for the randomly replaced card put to the bottom of the draw deck. After doing this you would ensure the hand is placed face down without looking at the new cards and then sit on the other side of the table and play the other side. This means 2 instead of 1 of the opponents cards are unknown to you when you are making your move.

This additional step could easily be justified in that the Fog of War not only presents new opportunities for sending out orders but also takes them away again (no doubt just before you were planning to execute them).

I will play test this next time I dust the box off for a solo game.
