Scenario Software was created by dougacker
Is there software that creates a map with terrain, units, etc? The fan-made scenarios for C&C:A all share a format, so there must be software everyone is using.

I am reading Sharpe with the Lipscombe atlas in front of me, while my 15mm Portuguese cavalry dry, and dreaming of creating scenarios.

Hello Doug, you have 2 possibilities.
Use the official Vassal module from the Vassalsite
or use the

unofficial Vassal module here in the "Download" section.
This one kept the style of the official scenario booklet.
And i had also setup a "Salamanca" Epic scenario, look on
this thread

Have fun with setup fan scenarios and share it here with us :)

Hi Doug,
as Michael said you can use the module you prefer, but as you can see for other scenarios I used "unofficial vassal module".
I used that because I'm forced to resize the picture to no more than 640 or 800 pixel (to show them in this website), said that official version will lead to smaller unit blocks (4 in each hex...) and it will become so hard to recognize them.
Unofficial module is more like scenario booklet (the one you will find inside real game box) and more clear for the web.

One thing the module does that the scenario booklet does not do is cover up the unit type label with an attached leader.

Edit: the city labels are also covered by units.

None of this would be a problem when playing, but if the module is to be used to make scenario designs then you can cover up information. Should be easy fixes though.

Hi Bart,
If your objective is to create a map "easy to understand" from initial setup you, can easily place Text Labels everywhere on the map (insted of attached to a specific terrain tiles).
But after first moves (IMHO) map will look much better with text label attached to city terrain hex.
It's only a "scenario designer" choice.
:)

The text labels is not really a problem. The designer must simply place them correctly, as you said. The leader stacking on the unit would be a problem though if a scenario was designed with the module, posted on this site, and you tried to set it up with your copy of C&C:N. Unless you first downloaded it, opened it in VASSAL, unstacked the leader to look underneath, then set it up. It should only be a minor fix though.

Hi All,

Is there software that creates a map with terrain, units, etc?

I am working, since a few days, on designing an historical scenario (south west of France in 1814) and was also looking for a standard presentation, as in the original booklet.

So, I made a word template for the scenario page (quite easy) and tried first to build the map with a graphic editor. The result is correct but much time consuming..:(

Finally, I built a small Vassal module (not for playing with..;) ), but as a tool using Vassal interface for making more easily scenario maps at standard format :

(I just placed quickly some pieces and tiles for the screen...)

This is not "software" but if anybody is interested for testing it, I'll share it with pleasure...:)

Alea jacta est...

Hi Pascal,

I would like to try both the template and the Graphic Module if I may.
Not sure how you could distribute them other than uploading to here though.

Cheers
Chris

Hi Pascal,
as Chris said I suggest you to send materials to submit @ ccnapoleonics . net (remove spaces) describing your files and then I'll publish them in the download section (if you'd like to make tehm avialable for everyone!).
Please let me know.

Thank you

No problem Chris and happy if this can be helpful : I just put the files in a small package ..

Just Unzip and don't forget to read the "readme.txt" file which contains some explications.

Also, feel free to give any feed-back for eventual corrections or improvements..:)

Alessandro, if you like, you can of course put this pack here, but this is a beta version and I must, may be, ask a permission from GMT to do that (I already contact them about some french translation stuff).
