Big win for the now legendary King Guy! The Crusaders opened up a channel on the right with mounted troops, allowing King Guy and two units of knights to fight through the gap. Both Ayyubid SHC were destroyed as were medium foot and archers by King Guy leading the knights. Both units of knights were destroyed but Guy survived all. Four units personally commanded by Saladin were destroyed but he equally survived all. Guy joined a Heavy Infantry unit which, using a double-move card, smashed into some medium cavalry on the baseline, destroying it, then followed up into some medium infantry destroying that. The double-move also got heavy & medium infantry on the left into the foot and light horse on the left who swept all away, creating a protected avenue for the Holy Relic to reach the board's edge. Next move the Holy Relic marched off the board for another 2 victory tokens. Guy was the hero of the hour (despite losing two units of knights in his heroics!).
The Ayyubids were struggling to get on the move most of the game, as nearly all their troops are right or left flanks. The Crusaders, who did not want to retreat in the scenario, successfully held things together to protect themselves from retreats, as their plan was to open up an escape channel for the Holy Relic. The Ayyubids had a successful Cavalry Charge, riding down a crossbow unit but were ambushed by Guy's knights as they followed up. A Shoot & Close card almost worked but Guy chose to retreat to avoid the charge, even with a one-block unit, and chance the Panic roll (successfully).
I suitably annoyed my opponents when after every successful King Guy combat I sang the ballad of Brave King Guy, The Invincible!
