As my gaming group has slowly fought its way through the scenarios in the rule book, we finally got to Solachon. We played both scenarios on Thursday afternoon with three player per side in the main battle game and two players per side in the Kardarigan's stand game.
The first game was won by the Byzantines 6 banners to 4. At the start of the Byzantine part of the turn, the score was 5 to 2. But while the Sassanids were getting their final 2 banners with battle backs, the Byzantines nabbed the winning one with a dice roll that was one for "the books." My Sassanid SHBC unit with leader got attacked by a Byzantine SHBC with leader with the mounted charge card. Rolling 6 dice the Byzantine player scored 5 hits, . Four with red squares and one with a helmet, getting banner #6 and winning the game. Then he added insult to injury by rolling another helmet to kill my leader for a symbolic 7th banner. Normally his dice rolling is marginal to adequate. This time it was stupendous.
In the second game, the Byzantines won 5 banners to 4 in a grinding slog around the center ridge.
