Can “Magic Web” be played in reaction to “Portal” or “Greater Portal”? (FAQ) 2006-12-13 14:11:58

Q: Can you play Magic Web in reaction to a unit moved by Portal or Greater Portal? If so, are they returned to their starting hex, or do they simply stay in their new hex unable to battle?

A: No, because the Portal or Greater Portal occur during the Command phase of a player's turn. The Magic Web can only be played during the Movement phase, too late to counter any Portal/Greater Portal.

What happens if the unit’s starting hex is occupied by another unit? (C/Q) 2006-12-18 18:26:01

Q: What do you do if, at the end of the move the card is played in response to, a unit is UNABLE to return to its starting hex, because that hex is now occupied?

I had a situation where three units were moved into attack position. My opponent decided to play magic web and try to return one unit (a heavy infantry) back to its starting hex. The only problem was that one of my other units had moved into the spot the heavy infantry had vacated.
Is this a question of move order, where you have to play the card immediately after that move is made, rather than at the "end" of the move phase, or would that unit get 'bumped' to a hex adjacent to the one from which it had started?

A: The answer is on page 50, in the "Play in reaction to your opponent's movement" section:
This web reaction applies to opponent's units that have not moved yet or a unit that is in the process of being moved by your opponent. If the Magic Web card is played correctly, it is impossible to have the moving unit's hex occupied when the web is played.
Further Comment: Our group plays a friendly game, so even if when the opponent has stopped moving a unit (placed it in the hex and has let go of the figures) and started to move another unit, we still allow the Magic Web Lore card to be played on the unit just moved.

Can “Magic Web” be used to prevent a unit from attacking this round? (C/Q) 2006-12-30 17:30:15

Q: Can I target a unit that doesn't move but is ordered with Magic Web? Just so I can use the last part of the card "Though still ordered,it may not move or BATTLE THIS ENTIRE TURN" Just so I can stop a unit from attacking.

A: Yes, you may.

Can “Magic Web” be used to prevent a unit from being “portal’d”? (C/Q) 2007-05-15 08:58:43

Q: In light of the answer to "targeting an ordered unit", would a unit ordered by Portal or Greater Portal be allowed to be webbed, and although it would remain at it's current position, not be able to attack?

A: No. As answered above, a Web can only be cast during the Movement phase. Since Portal/Greater Portal is cast prior to that phase, the web would arrive to late to prevent the unit from being teleported.
This being said, if you cast web on a unit that has already been teleported earlier in the turn, you will be able to prevent it from attacking indeed.

May the moves of other units in the same turn be undone after one unit was webbed/held? (C/Q) 2007-05-15 09:01:03

Q: When a unit is webbed during the movement phase, is the opponent allowed to "redo" the movement of other units which have already been moved?

A: No. Moves are done sequentially, and cannot be changed as a result of another unit being webbed later on.

How does this spell account for the movement costs of the Earth Elemental? (C/Q) 2007-06-25 07:55:30

Q: How does web work with the elemental? Lets say you move him 4 spaces and have to pay 4 lore to do so. Then your opponent plays Magic Web on him. Do you get the 4 lore back? I would think that you would since he didn't realy move.

A: You would get your 4 Lore back (or not spend them in the first place, since the Web prevents the EE from moving, practically speaking).
