Does “Parry” limit a unit’s battle dice for all battles of a turn? (C/Q) 2007-02-14 02:07:07

Q: Does a targeted unit attack with a total of 2d during the course of a turn, or is the target limited to 2d for each roll that it makes in battles during the turn, however many battles that may be?

A: It limits the target's attacks to 2d for each roll it makes in battle, not for all the battles of that turn cumulatively.
As a rule of thumb, in BattleLore, we generally try to shy away from effects and rules that would force you to do bookkeeping, and apply effects to the current battle/dice roll only.

How is “Darken the Skies”+”Magic Missiles” countered by “Parry”? (C/Q) 2007-02-16 06:43:51

Q: A "Darken the Skies" ordered green banner archer, also enhanced with "Magic Missiles" was "Parry"'ed. Would the targetted archer be allowed his 2 battles at 2d, or only one?

A: The Archers would still battle twice because of the Darken the Skies (assuming they haven't moved and aren't firing at point blank of course). They would battle at 2d (their base number of battle dice) + 2d for the Magic missiles. But the Parry would then force them back down to 2d.
Assuming the Parry was cast when the Archers unit was about to make its first attack of the Darken the sky, the Parry effect would then apply to both that attack and the second one. In each case, they'd only roll 2d then, despite their Magic missile.

Can “Parry” be countered by “Strength”? (C/Q) 2007-07-05 12:46:40

Q: Once Parry is played, is the target unit limited to 2d in battle regardless of any other spells, or could a card like Strength be played after Parry and have that +1d be added on top of the Parry penalty for a total of 3d? (Another question of latter played lore trumping (of sorts) formerly played lore during a turn.)

A: A Strength card would take effect before Parry (which is a Reaction card, unlike Strength) and would not affect it! if you played a Strength, you would thus still end up rolling only 2 dice.

How does “Parry” affect an attack of a Horn Blower unit? (C/Q) 2008-02-05 16:13:12

Q: If the opponent plays Parry against my blue foot unit with an embedded horn blower, how many dice can I roll if another blue foot unit is helping in the attack?

A: You can roll 5 dice: The blue unit with embedded horn blower gets 2 dice (reduced because of the Parry) and the other blue unit adds their normal 3 dice.
