Historical Notes

Edward the Black Prince, army while crossing the River Ebro, sent John Chandos, Constable of Aquitaine, vanguard ahead to hold a forward position early yesterday morning. Our lines are very thin and stretch west from the River Ebro to a small forest. The ground here is for the
most part clear and all our ranks are thankful the enemy only a short distance off has not yet deployed. The camp of Henry of Trastamara must be great in number, for during the night we could see fires, which stretched across the entire southern horizon.
The John of Gaunt, Duke of Lancaster battles have joined us this morning and just in time, for the enemy are moving forward. I do not recall when so many were deployed in one place to do battle.
Surely this day will be remembered for all time.
