Historical Notes
Upon the death of King Baldwin the IV of Jerusalem, a four year truce was negotiated with Saladin. Among the wiser leaders in Outremer, this truce was deemed essential to the survival of the Kingdom as Baldwin's heir was only 7 years old. The child was unable to rule in his own right, and without the strong hand of King Baldwin, the factionalism that had always plagued the christians was running rampant.
Within a year, Baldwin's heir was dead of disease, and the court of Jerusalem fell into chaos. Reynald de Chatillon, leader of the most intransigent and intolerant faction, took this as an opportunity to destroy the truce he despised and provoke an all out war. In November of 1186 he viciously attacked a Muslim merchant caravan.

Briefing
This is the first battle in a small campaign leading to the famous battle of Hattin. It is not intended to be completely accurate in that:
1. I wanted to include fantasy elements
2. Entertainment and accuracy are somtimes at cross purposes
This battle is the attack by Reynald and his private army against a muslim caravan. This is a fast moving battle between small forces as Reynald has spotted the caravan, but chooses to strike before his raiders have completely concentrated.
The caravan is not represented on the board directly, as the destruction of the guards is the tactically interesting part. The caravan is between the guards and the river. The river is impassible, and the key to the caravan's escape is across the ford.
