MT 2025 GF G1 All Along the Watchtower
Mark M Pennants/Goblins, 3 banners won, 25 blocks lost
Steve T Standards/Dwarves, 6 banners won, 18 blocks lost
The evil goblins began by charging into my left flank dwarves, who mightily held their ground and toppled goblin heads from goblin bodies. (The goblins had a healing puddle here, I was pretty sure that meant the goblins going into it would probably drown, but Mark insisted that his goblins could swim. Very typical of Mark knowing the rules sadly. A single block heavy infantry goblin [maybe hobgoblins or urukhai?] tried to heal themselves in it, but I was able to prevent their move with a web spell and then eliminate it). Score was 1-3, I only had right flank cards, and a pretty useless order green, so I ordered these dwarves forward. However, they were not as mighty as their left flank comrades, wounding a lot of goblin necks but not severing any. The ghastly goblins replied with 2/2/2, capturing a banner from a depleted unit on each flank and retreating 2 of their left flank single block LI away from my advancing right flank dwarves (3-3). Typical cowardly goblin behaviour. My 1st level dwarf Magic User cast Creeping Doom, destroying those two cowardly goblin LI and removing the support from an adjacent urukhai, which was destroyed in the subsequent melee (3-6).
Thanks to Mark for a fun game, he was handicapped by a small laptop screen and his usual dice rolls, I was handicapped by recovering from COVID 😊. We played using the Battle Savvy rules, which made it a lot more like other versions of C+C, and I think better.

MT 2025 GF G2 All Along the Watchtower
Steve T Pennants/Goblins, 6 banners won, 23 blocks lost
Mark M Standards/Dwarves, 3 banners won, 19 blocks lost
The dwarves attacked strongly on both flanks, although after heavy fighting they were finally pushed back into their watchtower from my Goblin’s pentacle on the Dwarven centre/left, while on the opposite flank the unit of Dwarf HI slaughtered its way forward and was only stopped from gaining a third banner by being destroyed by a level 3 fireball. Meanwhile, on the rear the Goblin cavalry used two mounted charges to capture both bridges against opposition, and early in the game the Dwarf watchtower, vacated by that rampaging HI, was occupied by Goblin LI. My Goblins eventually came out ahead, but not on casualties, with 2 of the 6 banners from the bridges and a tower and several units down to a single block, including a LC that somehow kept surviving repeated attacks.
Thanks to Mark for a pair of fun games! He went down fighting with his usual good humour.
MMcG reply:
realised post-match that 2 retreats on the Lizard Cavalry should have been 4 hexes.. would have changed a few things..
still shaking my head over a 4 die Bagpipe attack that scored no hits, despite each die being a 50% chance
