Rorke's Drift Scenario

We played the Rorke's Drift scenario a couple of time now implementing the changes that we were advised to do.  We still need some clarification and would like to add some comments.
1.)  Say when a Zulu unit immediately moves one space to be adjacent to attack a British unit, is that move the beginning of melee?  In other words , will Cross Swords cause a hit?  We believe that moving adjacent to attack is not melee, but that the unit being attacked begins the compulsory melee.
2.)  Your in melee until a unit is destroyed or one of them has to retreat.  What happens when Lt. Bromhead and his unit is in compulsory melee and he is the last figure standing?  He can not fight on his own can he?  If you have a card, could you retreat him?  Or, must he stay in place until until the ulu player rolls a Cross Swords?
3.)  A comment; we believe that the redoubt in Rorke's Drift would be classified as an entrenchment which is a -2 dice.  A Zulu unit on the other side of the redoubt  would only be able to roll one die.  All flags would be ignored.
4.)  Assume British units are in the redoubt and British units are positioned around the redoubt and can not retreat.  Once again, I would say that the first Flag would be ignored.

Thank you.

Steve

All of the standard Battlecry and C&C rules still apply, which answers most of your questions.

In Battlecry any attack from an adjacent hex is melee. It does not matter if you moved in that turn or were already there.

Only units that are ordered make attack rolls.
An ordered unit can move away without any restriction by the enemy unit - there is no pinning.

The Leaders follow the Battlecry rules for Generals and do not attack on their own. They can be ordered and may freely move away.

3.)  A comment; we believe that the redoubt in Rorke's Drift would be classified as an entrenchment which is a -2 dice.  A Zulu unit on the other side of the redoubt  would only be able to roll one die.  All flags would be ignored.

The special rules say the redoubt is treated as a Fieldworks.
So one less die when attacking across them and the defender may ignore 1 Flag.

4.)  Assume British units are in the redoubt and British units are positioned around the redoubt and can not retreat.  Once again, I would say that the first Flag would be ignored.

They can always use the ignore 1 flag effect of the redoubt, there is no requirement to have a retreat path.

Replied by S. A. Gundel on topic Rorke's Drift Scenario
Thank you for clearing most everything up.

Reference Comment #2 answer; "no pinning."

I was looking at the "Advanced Rulebook for Battle Cry: 150th Civil War Anniversary Edition (2010)" under Melee. Were it explains about compulsory melee until one unit is destroyed or retreats. I guess for the Roarke's Drift scenario we're suppose to use the original rules?

Oh that is a Fan created rule book and in no way official.

The scenario was created for the official rules.
