DIXIE

I wish I was in the land of cotton,
Old times there are not forgotten;
Look away! Look away! Look away, Dixie's Land!
In Dixie's Land where I was born in,
Early on one frosty morning,
Look away! Look away! Look away, Dixie's Land!

Then I wish I was in Dixie! Hooray! Hooray!
In Dixie's Land I'll take my stand, to live and die in Dixie!
Away! Away! Away down South in Dixie!
Away! Away! Away down South in Dixie!

Old Missus married "Will the Weaver";
William was a gay deceiver!
Look away! Look away! Look away, Dixie's Land!
But when he put his arm around her,
Smiled as fierce as a forty-pounder!
Look away! Look away! Look away, Dixie's Land!

His face was sharp as a butcher's cleaver;
But that did not seem to grieve her!
Look away! Look away! Look away, Dixie's Land!
Old Missus acted the foolish part
And died for a man that broke her heart!
Look away! Look away! Look away, Dixie's Land!

Now here's a health to the next old missus
And all the gals that want to kiss us!
Look away! Look away! Look away, Dixie's Land!
But if you want to drive away sorrow,
Come and hear this song tomorrow!
Look away! Look away! Look away, Dixie's Land!

There's buckwheat cakes and Injin batter,
Makes you fat or a little fatter!
Look away! Look away! Look away, Dixie's Land!
Then hoe it down and scratch your gravel,
To Dixie's Land I'm bound to travel!
Look away! Look away! Look away, Dixie's Land!

My dice are the hell!

SOUTHERN SOLDIER

I'll place my knapsack on my back
My rifle on my shoulder
I'll march away to the firing line
And kill that Yankee soldier
And kill that Yankee soldier
I'll march away to the firing line
And kill that Yankee soldier

I'll bid farewell to my wife and child
Farewell to my aged mother
And go and join in the bloody strife
Till this cruel war is over
Till this cruel war is over
I'll go and join in the bloody strife
Till this cruel war is over

If I am shot on the battlefield
And I should not recover
Oh, who will protect my wife and child
And care for my aged mother
And care for my aged mother
Oh, who will protect my wife and child
And care for my aged mother

And if our Southern cause is lost
And Southern rights denied us
We'll be ground beneath the tyrant's heel
For our demands of justice
For our demands of justice
We'll be ground beneath the tyrant's heel
For our demands of justice

Before the South shall bow her head
Before the tyrants harm us
I'll give my all to the Southern cause
And die in the Southern army
And die in the Southern army
I'll give my all to the Southern cause
And die in the Southern army

If I must die for my home and land
My spirit will not falter
Oh, here's my heart and here's my hand
Upon my country's altar
Upon my country's altar
Oh, here's my heart and here's my hand
Upon my country's altar

Then Heaven be with us in the strife
Be with the Southern soldier
We'll drive the mercenary horde
Beyond our Southern border
Beyond our Southern border
We'll drive the mercenary horde
Beyond our Southern border

My dice are the hell!

WEARING OF THE GREY

The fearful struggle’s ended now, and peace smiles on our land
And tho we’ve yielded, we have proved ourselves a faithful band.
We fought them long, we fought them well, we fought them night and day
And bravely struggled for our rights while wearin’ of the Gray!

And now that we have ceased to fight and pledged our sacred word
That we against the Union’s might no more will draw the sword
We feel despite the sneers of those who never smelled the fray
That we’ve a manly honest right to wearin’ of the Gray.

Our Cause is lost, no more we fight ‘gainst overwhelmin’ power.
All wearied are our limbs and drenched with many a battle shower.
We feign would rest for want of strength and yield them up the day
And lower the flag so proudly borne while wearin’ of the Gray.

Defeat is not dishonor; No, of honor not bereft.
We should thank God that in our breast this priceless boon is left.
And tho we weep just for those braves who stood in proud array
Beneath our flag and nobly died while wearin’ of the Gray.

When in the ranks of war we stood and faced the deadly hail
Our simple suits of Gray composed our only coats of mail.
And on those awful hours that marked the bloody battle day
In memory we will still be seen a wearin’ of the Gray.

O, should we reach that glorious place where waits the sparklin’ crown
For everyone who for the right his soldier’s life lay down,
God grant to us the privilege upon that happy day
Of clasping hands with those who fell a wearin’ of the Gray.

THE BONNIE BLUE FLAG

1. We are a band of brothers and native to the soil
Fighting for our Liberty, With treasure, blood and toilAnd when our rights were threatened, the cry rose near and farHurrah for the Bonnie Blue Flag that bears a single star!

Chorus

Hurrah! Hurrah! For Southern rights, hurrah!Hurrah for the Bonnie Blue Flag that bears a single star.
2. As long as the Union was faithful to her trust
Like friends and like brethren, kind were we, and justBut now, when Northern treachery attempts our rights to marWe hoist on high the Bonnie Blue Flag that bears a single star.

Chorus

3. First gallant South Carolina nobly made the stand
Then came Alabama and took her by the handNext, quickly Mississippi, Georgia, and FloridaAll raised on high the Bonnie Blue Flag that bears a single star.
Chorus

4. Ye men of valor gather round the banner of the right
Texas and fair Louisiana join us in the fightDavis, our loved President, and Stephens statesmen rareNow rally round the Bonnie Blue Flag that bears a single star.

Chorus

5. Now here's to brave Virginia, the Old Dominion State,
With the young Confederacy at last has sealed her fate,And spurred by her example, now other states prepareTo hoist high the Bonnie Blue Flag that bears a single star.

Chorus

6. Then cheer, boys, cheer, raise a joyous shout
For Arkansas and North Carolina now have both gone out,And let another rousing cheer for Tennessee be given,The single star of the Bonnie Blue Flag has grown to be eleven.

Chorus

7. Then here's to our Confederacy, strong we are and brave,
Like patriots of old we'll fight, our heritage to save; And rather than submit to shame, to die we would prefer,So cheer for the Bonnie Blue Flag that bears a single star.

SONG OF THE IRISH BRIGADE

Oh, not now for songs of a nation’s wrongs,
not the groans of starving labor;
Let the rifle ring and the bullet sing
to the clash of the flashing sabre!
There are Irish ranks on the tented banks
of Columbia’s guarded ocean;
And an iron clank from flank to flank
tells of armed men in motion.

And frank souls there clear true and bare
To all, as the steel beside them,
Can love or hate withe the strength of Fate,
Till the grave of the valiant hide them.
Each seems to be mailed Ard Righ,
whose sword’s avenging glory
Must light the fight and smite for Right,
Like Brian’s in olden story!

With pale affright and panic flight
Shall dastard Yankees base and hollow,
Hear a Celtic race, from their battle place,
Charge to the shout of “Faugh-a-ballaugh!”
By the sould above, by the land we love
Her tears bleeding patience
The sledge is wrought that shall smash to naught
The brazen liar of nations.

The Irish green shall again be seen
as our Irish fathers bore it,
A burning wind from the South behind,
and the Yankee rout before it!
O’Neil’s red hand shall purge the land-
Rain a fire on men and cattle,
Till the Lincoln snakes in their own cold lakes
Plunge from the blaze of battle.

The knaves that rest on Columbia’s breast,
and the voice of true men stifle;
we’ll exorcise from the rescued prize-
Our talisman, the rifle;
For a tyrant’s life a bowie knife!-
Of Union knot dissolvers,
The best we ken are stalwart men,
Columbiads and revolvers!

Whoe’er shall march by triumphal arch
Whoe’er may swell the slaughter,
Our drums shall roll from the Capitol
O’er Potomac’s fateful water!
Rise, bleeding ghosts, to the Lord of Hosts
For judgement final and solemn;
Your fanatic horde to the edge of the sword
Is doomed line, square, and column!

OH SUSANNAH

I come from Alabama
With a banjo on my knee
I'm going to Louisiana,
My true love for to see.

It rained all night the day I left
The weather it was dry
The sun so hot, I froze to death
Susannah, don't you cry.

Oh, Susannah,
Oh don't you cry for me
For I come from Alabama
With a banjo on my knee.

I had a dream the other night
When everything was still
I dreamed I saw Susannah dear
A-coming down the hill.

The buckwheat cake was in her mouth
The tear was in her eye
Says I, “I'm coming from the south,
Susannah, don't you cry.”

Oh, Susannah,
Oh don't you cry for me
For I come from Alabama
With a banjo on my knee.

I come from A-la-ba-ma
With a ban-jo on my knee,
I'm going to Lou-i-siana,
My true love for to see.

Oh, Su-san-nah, oh,
Don't you cry for me,
For I come from A-la-ba-ma
With a ban-jo on my knee.

My dice are the hell!

STONEWALL JACKSONS WAY

Come, stack arms, men. Pile on the rails,
Stir up the campfire bright;
No matter if the canteen fails,
We'll make a roaring night.
Here Shenandoah brawls along,
There burly Blue Ridge echoes strong
To swell the brigade's rousing song
Of "Stonewall Jackson's way."

We see him now, the old slouched hat
Cocked o'er his eye askew,
The shrewd, dry smile, the speech so pat,
So calm, so blunt, so true.
That "Blue-Light Elder" knows 'em well
Says he, "That's Banks; he's fond of shell
Lord save his soul! We'll give him"...well,
That's "Stonewall Jackson's way."

Silence! Ground arms! Kneel all! Caps off!
Old Blue Light's going to pray;
Strangle the fool that dares to scoff;
Attention; it's his way!
Appealing from his native sod,
In forma pauperis to God--
"Lay bare thine arm; stretch forth thy rod;
Amen." That's "Stonewall's way."

He's in the saddle now! Fall in!
Steady, the whole brigade!
Hill's at the ford, cut off! He'll win
His way out, ball and blade.
What matter if our shoes are worn?
What matter if our feet are torn?
"Quick step--we're with him ere the dawn!"
That's "Stonewall Jackson's way."

The sun's bright glances rout the mists
Of morning, and, by George!
There's Longstreet struggling in the lists,
Hemmed in an ugly gorge--
Pope and his Yankees whipped before
"Bayonet and grape!" hear Stonewall roar,
"Charge, Stuart! Pay off Ashby's score
In Stonewall Jackson's way."

Ah, maiden! wait and watch and yearn
For news of Stonewall's band!
Ah, widow! read with eyes that burn
That ring upon thy hand!
Ah, wife! sew on, pray on, hope on,
Thy life shall not be all forlorn
The foe had better ne'er been born,
That gets in Stonewall's way.

THE CAVALIER´S GLEE

1. Spur on! Spur on! We love the bounding
Of barbs that bear us to the fray.
The charge our bugles now are sounding
And our bold Stuart leads the way!

CHORUS: The path of honour lies before us.
Our hated foeman gathers fast.
At home, bright eyes are sparkling for us,
And we'll defend them to the last!

2. Spur on! Spur on! We love the rushing
Of steeds that spurn the turf they tread.
We'll through the northern ranks go crushing
With our proud battle flag o'erhead.

3. Spur on! Spur on! We love the flashing
Of blades that battle to be free.
'Tis for our sunny south they are clashing,
For household, God and liberty!

4. Spur on! Spur on! We love the bounding
Of barbs that bear us to the fray.
The charge our bugles now are sounding
And our bold Stuart leads the way!

KENTUCKY CONFEDERATE BATTLE ANTHEM

Verse One:

In the year of sixty one we left our native land
for we could not bend our spirits to a tyrants stern command
And we rallied to our Buckner while our hearts were sad and sore
To offer our blood for freedom as our fathers did before

Chorus:
And we'll march march march to the music of the drum
we were driven forth in exile from our old kentucky home.

Verse two:
When first the Southern flag whirled its folds upon the air,
Its stars had hardly gathered till Kentucky's sons were there,
And they swore a solemn oath as they sternly gathered round
They would only live as freeman in the dark and bloody ground.

Chorus:
And we'll march march march to the music of the drum
we were driven forth in exile from our old kentucky home.

Verse three:
With Buckner as our leader and Morgan in the Van,
We Will plant the flag of freedom in our fair and happy land
We will drive the tyrants minions to the Ohio's rolling flood,
And will dye her waves in crimson with coward Yankee blood.

Chorus:
And we'll march march march to the music of the drum
we were driven forth in exile from our old kentucky home.

Verse four:
Then cheer ye Southern braves, ye soon shall see the day,
When Kentucky's fairest daughters will cheer you on your way,
And then her proud old mothers will welcome one and all
For "United we must stand, but divided we must fall".
