I am really glad to see that scenario played - my favourite one :)

Mark, is it assumed we'll play with the optional tactical Flexibility rule?....or is that at the discretion of the players?

Thanks,

Brent.

I'm prepared to say it is mandatory rather than optional, but having played this Special Rule a few times in the past, I've never actually seen it come into play.

The Romans under Flaminius advance in the centre and take position in the hills under the constant harassment of the Macedonians lights. The Macedonians try to confront them while they are still establishing themselves there. One heroic phalanx unit withstands the whole attack of the Romans. Lacking Macedonian command leads to no support for this unit so that it fights alone and dies. In the meantime the Macedonian cavalry wrecks havoc in the Roman left flank. After having weakened the Romans on the hill the Macedonian phalanx finally moves and charges the hills and secure the victory.

Game 2
BrentS (Macedon) 6 banners won
Carthage (Rome) 3 banners won

Flaminius advance with a small contingent and the Macedonian lights try to block him. The Macedonian cavalry positions itself on the hills besides the lights. In response the Romans under Flaminius charge the Macedonian and neighbouring wounded light units. The charge leads to important losses on both sides. Flaminius tries to recklessly pursuie wounded Macedonian units which eventually leads to the dispersion of his contingent. The resulting loss of momentum forces the Romans to reform with the units on the right flank. In the meantime the Macedonian cavalyry cleans up the Roman after it tried to countercharge them. After its destruction can freely pick up the last banners.

Quarter Final 4
Tony Armada vs Mark McG

Game 1
Mark McG (Macedonian) - 6 banners
Tony (Roman) - 4 banners

Tony was quick out of the gates on this one and my cards and dice were pretty miserable. At one point I was down 0-3 in the banner score and with the dice running cold, I bitched about not taking any banners this game. Well complaint was heard, and from that point my dice went hot, Tony's cooled and I won in the end.

In this match all the action was on the Centre and Macedonian Right, with hardly any action to the Macedonian Left until the very end when Tony made moves there and walked into my horde of Left cards.

Game 2
Tony (Macedonian) - 6 banners
Mark McG (Roman) - 5 banners

A far more balanced match with the dice, and a lot of hot action on the Roman Right, with hardly any in the Centre and a cavalry clash on the Roman Left.

Mostly the banner scores were neck & neck the whole game, with Tony drawing ahead , then myself with a few good cards to a 5-3 lead, and Tony came home with a 3 banner streak cleaning up the Roman trash on the Right.

A win by the barest of margins... but I'll take it gladly. Thank to Tony for 2 very challenging matches.

First game:
Tomek (Macedonia) - 6 banners
Stonewall (Rome) - 4 banners
Very tight and one of the longest games that I have played. The Romans managed to take the center while Greeks won on their left flank, keeping the majority of the heavies out of combat almost until the end. The old school phalanx hold pretty well against the roman legion and at the end managed to change the history. 23 to 28 casualties.

Second game:
Tomek (Rome) - 6 banners
Stonewall (Macedonia) - 4 banners
Rome had its revenge over confused and exhausted Macedonians. Almost but not exactly. I was lucky with the draw most of the time and thought that I was controlling the game but at the end Stonewall made hell of a come back (with a single leader on the field) and almost had the day. A desperate attack with the elephants won the bloody battle. 28 to 32 casualties.
