thanks Togan, and MT58 will kick off soon.

At the moment I'm putting together the groundwork for Open Tournament 2016, which will start in March. So that is getting the priority at the moment, but I'm interested in what sort of scenarios players want in MT58.
some ideas I've had are;
Spartan Hegemony (Expansion 6 mostly)
Alexander's battles
8 banner battles
but happy to hear other suggestions

You can count me in for the open tournament. As far as the MT58 is concerned I would love to play the Spartan Hegemony. Would you start a new thread for this so other interested players not attending MT57 could elaborate

Round 3 - Gabiene

sharpe 08 - Banners 3 Blocks Lost 26
BrentS - Banners 7 Blocks Lost 18

A bizarre game that I'm sure we both thought was looking like a rollover for Antigonus and then wasn't. Antigonus was 3 banners up and in dominant position and then Euemenes got 7 unanswered banners. It all hinged around Michael's Mounted Charge which caught me badly out of position and looked to be a finisher.......but some shocking rolling at his end and some good battling back on mine; and the fact that we noticed that he'd accidentaly ordered one too many units midway through the battle rolls, meaning he had to unorder and pull out a key Medium Cav, resulted in a dramatic swing (I know Michael was disappointed with himself for the error and I'm sorry I didn't spot it sooner.....I blame 3 hours sleep :(...and Michael blamed his wife :P ). A fun and dramatic game, all the same.

I think that's the last game? I'm sorry to have kept everyone waiting.......I tried to get these scheduled as promptly as possible. Thanks for the late invitation to fill in, Mark. I know I'm no replacement for Todd, but who is? Thanks all, it was a fun tournament. These Expansion 1 Successor battles are still among my favourite scenarios for the game.

Brent.

Would be good to see some Sparta related scenarios. They are sometimes small and quick, they draw from new mechanics know in CNN (so VP not only for blocks, but terrain and special rules. I like them befor we return to Romans:)

Semi Final Round 1 - 119 Raphia (217 BC)

plainscape (Ptolomaic) 8 Banners 28 blocks lost
Greg O (Seleucid) 7 Banners 34 blocks lost

This was a very close game that could have gone either way even into the last die roll. There was a lot of activity on either flank as we tried to kill each others elephants. And then through very odd die rolls ended up in some odd positions. The game ended with the Ptolomaic center directly engaging the enemy. But, with a well played Seleucid Double Time card, this attack looked like it would fail as well. Somehow Ptolomey went from having only 6 banners to 8 with the death of Nicharchus and won the day.

Semi Final Round 2 - 119 Raphia (217 BC)
Greg O (Ptolomaic) 4 Banners 34 blocks lost
plainscape (Seleucid) 8 Banners 18 blocks lost

I owe this victory completely to to a very well placed cavalry charge. Though the Medium Cav and Heavy Cav were beaten back, the elephant destroyed the to center heavies and in the subsequent turns, chewed apart the entire center of the Ptolomaic army. Though slain in battle, the elephant's memory lives on in our hearts.

Semi-Final - Raphia

Match 1: BrentS (Seleucid) 8 - Toganalper (Ptolemaic) 5

A fun match for this finely balanced scenario. It played out fairly typically with a bunch of cagey maneuvering, sniping and repositioning on the flanks and ended with main line infantry engagement in the centre initiated by Togan's Double Time. Interestingly in the middle there was an early-ish Mounted Charge played by Togan with his elephants hitting my centre before I had my leader carefully positioned. The elephants did what they do best (die disappointingly) but did cause some carnage and I was lucky to have a little time to clean up the mess before his heavy infantry moved in. There was some outrageous rolling on both sides with some 1 roll full strength unit kills (Togan's Heavy Infantry, my Heavy Cav) but the luck certainly edged my way with a failed kill by Togan on my 2 block leader-led Heavy Infantry in the centre, which swung the endgame my way. A great game, very well played by Togan and could have gone either way.

Match 2: BrentS (Ptolemaic) 8 - Toganalper (Seleucid) 4

A very different match in which Togan's right moved quickly into my left and dispersed it. Pushing a number of damaged lights all the way to my baseline with his hungry cavalry poised to knock them off the board......and I had no left (or right) orders at all, only centre. What would you rather have.......good cards or good dice? I had crazy good dice and it was one of those games I came out of feeling dirty, because I was in no position to win but the dice gave it to me, including a leader kill (1 die leader check, but still...) and my sacrificial 1 block Medium Infantry wiping out a full strength Heavy in one roll. I was able to do what you should do in this situation, which is create a diversionary attack elsewhere to buy time and hope for saving card draws (with my hand full of centre cards) but that was only because I had no other cards to use (except for one golden Coordinated Attack), and it wasn't clever play but dice that determined it and Togan deserved more out of this game than the banner count suggests. Somehow my left survived, only because I suspect Togan's strong right advance might have petered out of the orders that he needed to put the nail in the coffin, and my centre held firm against his double Double Time to finish it.

Thanks Togan for some very enjoyable games of one of everyone's favourite scenarios.

Brent.
