Why not try a smaller scale

First post for a great game on an equally good site.

I wondered if many people have considered using smaller scale figures for their miniature games eg 6mm or 2mm. Fairly extensive ranges are available in either scale and of course can be much cheaper.

I know 15mm are popular not the least because of DBA, but for sheer spectacle 6mm gives them a good run for their money. You get more figures onto a base and the board stays relatively small as well - we use the excellent hexed playmats from Terrainmat.com.

We have even dabbled with using 2mm blocks. Too small, try a lookup for "2mm Zama" and think again. You really get the impression of looking down accross a battlefield.

Hi!

My usual scale is 1/72. (what a surprise!!)

Because of the Battlelore game, I become familiar with 15 mm.

And in my opinion that's the limit!

More smaller is not my taste!

Fair point.

As a wargamer for far longer than I care to admit, I have found I have sold my larger scale figures to collect the more diminuative, simply to allow me to game while constrained for space bringing up a family.

I like the detail of 15mm plus but as mentioned love the spectacle of more figures.

We have been trying to work out what scale would work well and have considered 15mm and 6mm. I think I'll grab some of both at Salute this year. And speaking of Salute there is a participation game 28mm Reconstruction of Battle of Zama - Hannibal v Scipio using Command and Colors Rules!

Not C&CA, but there will be another refight of Zama at the Society of Ancients battleday next month. However, this will be in 2mm, the trial games look impressive
