Ken played a very strong game throughout, and I was fortunate to avoid a 5-0 shutout. I did have some near misses and bad rolls, especially on a tailor-made opportunity for a Rally card (when will I learn...?), but overall Ken's planning and execution was the reason I found myself in a 4-0 hole after six turns. Once Ken got his hoplites engaged, his tactics were masterful at smashing apart my lines and driving my units back nearly off the board. I survived just long enough to draw a MC card, and came perhaps a single flag roll away from a tremendous reversal of fortune, but in the end felt lucky to have brought it back to a 5-4 loss.
Match 2
kwofford (Greeks) 2 banners
Travis (Spartans) 5 banners
Game two was a much different affair, and I had the luxury of a solid set of cards and good rolls to be able to employ my Spartans effectively. In the early turns, I was able to drive one of the MC units off the board with some fortunate ranged rolls, and as before, Ken seized the moment and smashed into my lines with a well-executed DT card. Turn 6 was again the crucial turn though, as Ken's play of MC drew some horrible luck (a single hit each on two 5d ldr supported rolls) and left his units vulnerable to my next move, which ended the match.
Spartans win both games
