Renaud vs Hank
First game - Renaud (Greeks) 4, Hank (Spartans) 5
Lots of light-focused cards to start, with limited effect given the limited number of lights on the battlefield. Then Hank moved the Spartan line forward with a line command, then a Mounted Charge. A First Strike did little to stop the onslaught, especially as I lost a leader. So Hank moved quickly ahead on the banner track. I somehow managed to make it back to 4-4, but then he played another Mounted Charge, and that was all she wrote.
Second game - Renaud (Spartans) 5, Hank (Spartans) 2
I too had lots of light-focused cards to start, so I used my one LI. Hank aggressively moved on my right with his MC, supported by one of his LI, attacking mine, but he could not get what he wanted (neither MC ever died). Then Hank also moved on my left and eventually I lost one MI (but my leader escaped, and my LIS while unsupported and unless on my back row managed to not die when attacked by his MC). To relieve pressure, I double-timed in the center-right. This time, he played a first strike, but it was minimally more successful than mine in the prior game (2 blocks instead of 1). I started doing some damage to his hoplite line, killing 1 leader in the process, but he also battle-backed with a Yahtzee and killed one of MIs. Still, I was finally able to eliminate one other MI and catch his 4-block LI on my right with 2 MI and my MC reduced to 1 block. Despite having its retreat path blocked, the LI survived both MI attacks with 1 block left, but the MC took care of business.
So both games saw the Spartans win, having killed one Greek leader each time, and having the Greeks use a FS somewhat ineffectively, but despite only using DT vs 2 MCs, I ended up in a better place.
