OT 2026 Round 6. June 2026# C3i03 Panormus (250BC)
Note: For clarity, I use “Left” and “Right” to refer to the left and right side of the map, not to each players left or right flank.
Game 1

As expected, the action began with missile fire and close combat on the right, causing hits and trampling to the Carths. Despite repeated attempts to dislodge them, the Roman LI and LB held the ramparts. Changing their attention away from the right, both commanders then focused on the center, using back to back Line Commands to bring MI and HI together. The Carths tried a Double Time to dodge across the center to engage the AUX on the left, but the tactic ultimately fell apart when Hasdrubal and his HI and MI failed to score any substantial hits while the Romans took blocks.The battle reached a point where Hasdrubal had fled his dying HI and attached to an MC, the Romans were striding up the left and center, and the score was 3-1. Then it was 4-1. Then it was 4-2. Then it was 5-2 and the Carths were in trouble. Desperate to redeem his honor (and hoping to grab a couple banners on the way out) Hasdrubal played a Mounted Charge +1 and attacked with his MC and ELE. He eliminated two units on his MC, but the ELE proved ineffective against an MI and fell on the battle back, bringing the battle to a close. Nice game by the Romans keeping the Carths off balance while bringing their famed MI to the center.

The Romans opened with a lucky Darken the Sky on the right, causing much trampling to the Carth Wars and LI. They responded by moving an ELE to the hills, but that unit quickly fell to advancing Roman MI and AUX. The Carths repeatedly rained missile fire on the Romans as they moved up the center, but a final Line Command finished two Carth units with missile fire and close combat.The score was now 3-0, and although the Romans were in good line formation across the center, they instead ran their MC up the left and attacked the LB and LS stationed there. Although the Carths moved their CAVS to a defensive formation, the next turn brought the Romans two more banners as their MC routed the MC and LC on the far left to bring the score to 5-0. Although there was more maneuvering by both Generals, the Romans managed to finish off a straggler LI and bring the battle to a 6-0 close. Although the Romans are favored here, their sacrifices to the Gods of Dice brought them an unusually decisive victory. Thanks DanieleC and hope to see you in the room again sometime. M
