Game 1
kwofford (Theban) 5 Banners
soul1st (Spartan) 3 Banners
Thebans opened with a mounted charge to the center, followed by a Spartan left wing advance. Thebans got their troops in line, as the spartan center advanced. Thebans continued reorganizing, and advanced their right wing. Twan had terrible luck, with no one stepping up to be spartacus (only one unit ordered, but was able to finish off a second unit (score 0-2). The Theban right flank pressed in, followed by the rest of the Theban line. Sparta skirmished, and then Thebes threw their heavy infantry against the spartan center-right. The spartan auxillae fell, breaking the spartan line. The Spartan hoplited counterattacked, but came off worse as they lost 2 hoplites vs 1 Theban heavy (score 4-3). The Theban heavys counterattacked, driving back the last Spartan hoplite and killing another auxillae for the 5-3 win. Luck was against Twan with the bad Spartacus roll and lackluster rolls against the Theban heavies.
Game 2
soul1st (Theban) 1 Banners
kwofford (Spartan) 5 Banners
Much the same start, with a Theban advance in the center that was repulsed. The Thebans and Spartans reorganized to get their troops in line. The Spartan Allied hoplites advanced on the left, driving back the Theban right. The Theban heavies advanced, and the Spartan and allied Hoplites advanced on their left to press the attack and on the right to meet the advance of the Heavies. The attack was wildly successful, killing an auxillae on the Theban left and two Theban heavies on the right. The Thebans counterattacked with the Sacred band and their remaining heavies, killing a weakened spartan hoplite. The Spartans executed a coordinated attack, retreating Epaminondas' heavies and running them down as they fled for the win.
Fate is fickle, but smiled on me and frowned on Twan this game. He was a great sport about the results, and I look forward to matching with him again.
