The game remains balanced until the Syracusans lose their leader on the left flank. Michael maneuvers to organize his units around, the only surviving leader, under the constant threat of Carthaginian missiles. A last heroic double time fails to give the Syracusan the fourth VP.
The Syracuse attack with heavy infantry on the right flank does not produce the expected results. While the Carthaginian mop up the last weakened remnants of the failed attack, the Syracuse army manages to eliminate a couple of light units on the left flank and almost win the game.
