Where can we find a map? I think there is no this kind of map in this version of the module.

Game 1

Gonzo (Roman): 5

Travis (Carthage): 6

Gonzo did a great job keeping me off balance with his lights, and was ready to win the game when I was able to stave off sure defeat with a timely FS card. A game of maneuver and ranged attacks by both sides. He made me pay for leaving some exposed units alone, and played his 4-card hand expertly.

(problems with synching in this game messed up logfile...is only partial.)

Game 2

Gonzo (Carthage): 5

taliapharaoh (Roman): 6

Gonzo began the game smoking two units on the Roman right from long range, and it looked like this one would be an easy 6-0 victory for the Carthaginians. Fortunately, the Carthage melee dice failed Gonzo a number of times, and despite perfectly laid plans, the Romans were able to first counter-punch in the center, and then miraculously draw a Clash of Shields card when needed. The resulting carnage tipped the scales in favor of the Romans after two full strength Ws failed to pierce the Roman line of lights and Aux due to the dice. Even still, the Carthaginians were one hit away from victory, but did not get it, and the final cavalry unit was surrounded and eliminated for the final banner.

Two exhausting games, but both very even and fun. Both games decided by a single banner, and the blocks lost ended up dead even after the two matches.

Mike Stanley (scipio1zama) played the Romans – won 6 banners, lost 25 blocks

Togan Alper played the Carthaginians – won 5 banners, lost 32 blocks

Hills and broken ground make for weakened attacks and a longer game, but we sure had fun. Most of the battles took place in the center, swirling around those hills and broken ground. I lost 5 of my 6 Roman units in the center, while he lost both Warriors and an Auxilia – and 2 LC from his right, but not before they took out my 1-block HI and MI, damaged in the earlier battles. His third LC was badly damaged, and withdrew to the rear rank, and the fighting switched over to the Roman right. After an exchange of pila, our HI and MI advanced to meet, and I was able to get 3 hits on a Carthaginian HI, but couldn’t take him out. Facing 2 HI with a leader, I thought I was in trouble. Unfortunately for Togan, the end saw the Carthaginians with two Right Flank cards, two Medium Infantry cards and a Mounted Charge – none of which were helpful. I was able to eliminate the damaged HI for the 6th banner in a close-fought, tense and exciting game.

Vassal hiccupped part way through the game, and unbeknown to me, My LogFile stopped running when I re-synched.

Round 1: AC22 Ilorca (211 BC)

Tomek (Carthaginian): 5 banners
stormwalker (Roman): 6 banners

The first battle was fought mostly between the light units in the middle section with both sides scoring banner for banner. The final score was settled with a decisive Roman attack on the right wing.

stormwalker (Carthaginian): 6 banners
Tomek (Roman): 1 banner

In the second battle a sequence of good cards allowed the Carthaginian army to close quickly on the Roman units. The Romans tried fighting back with a Double Time attack but in this battle luck was not on their side.

Many thanks to Tomek for playing!

Ilorca OT2020 Game 2

Mike Stanley (scipio1zama) played the Carthaginians – won - 6 banners

Togan Alper played the Romans – 2 banners

After a lot of initial maneuvering and spear throwing, the Romans had removed 4 Carthaginian blocks while losing none themselves. Then in the center hills two Carth. Aux went after a Roman LB which could not evade but they didn’t succeed in eliminating it. The Aux were attacked in turn by Roman HI & MI which damaged both Aux but received damage in return. Then Hansdrubal Gisco swooped down with his Warrior and eliminated both the HI and the MI, chasing Scipio back to a 1-block LB, which was soon eliminated along with poor Scipio. A Carth. Aux also bit the dust.

Then both sides’ forces on the Roman right collided, with a Carth. MI lost, but not before taking 3 blocks from the Roman HI with a timely First Strike. This final battle saw the demise of the Roman HI and an Aux for the final 2 banners.

Togan noted that this played more like a typical Ancients game than our first match (and took about ¾ hour less time.) I was fortunate to always have a card I could use.
