A ruling from RB himself is actually very helpful, thanks (I find CSW so difficult to navigate, even though it's searchable). I wonder where I picked up the idea. Maybe I was thinking of the altered strengths or Warriors and Barb Chariots and conflating it with bonus dice.....or maybe I was just hallucinating .

Gonzo (Athenian) 6 banners

Michal (Syracusan) 3 banners

Lots of range fire then Athenian slowly closes and Syracuse charges and able to get 3 before going down.

Match 2

Michal (Athenian) 2 banners

Gonzo (Syracusan) 6 banners

Athenian purses Syracuse right with lots of light unit movement. 2 Athenina Aux got cut off n killed at enge of swamp with a Mounted Charge. Athena hoplites close but lose melee with leader death.

Game was intresting. But i need to destroy only one unit, so i did it)))    

Game 1
GomJabbar (Athenian) 6 banners

The battle started with some tentative shots from light units on the flanks and then a combination of Line Commands on both sides brought the Hoplites into close combat. Then it got bloody fast. An Athenian Mounted Charge was particularly devastating and won them 4 banners in 1 turn. The Syracusans never recovered. Their medium cav tried to get involved with the Athenian Hoplites but fell to battle backs. It was the fastest game of Ancients I ever played. It was over by the end of turn 3.

GomJabbar (Syracusan) 2 banners

This game was very similar to the last with tentative light unit shots on the flanks followed by the Hoplites getting into close combat. Fortunately (for GomJabbar) the Syracusans were very lucky to get 2 banners before falling to the overwhelming Athenian assault. Another quick game only lasting 5 turns.

Game 1

The Athenians started with a fair bit of sniping from the lights on their wings, some of it successful. The Syracusans replied, but then moved forward with a line command. The Athenians did a hoplite charge with their 6 hoplite units, taking down 4 Syracusan hoplites and reducing another one to 2 blocks. The Syracusans threw all caution to the wind and used a blue card to attack one isolated Athenian MI, with 2 of their full-strength MCs, but it first struck, blunting their attack, and reducing both to 1 block while losing 2 of its own. On the right, the third MC attacked a 3-block hoplite unit, but failed to kill it, and lost 2 blocks on the battle back, then Hermocrates finished the Athenian unit and moved against Niclas, but the latter survived with one block, and the battle back killed Hermocrates for the Athenians' 6th banner. Had it not happened, the Athenians had picked up a second Mounted Charge to replace the Mounted Charge they had played, so the Syracusan fate was foretold. Good cards and good dice for me; no complaint. Game 2 next Wednesday.
