An interesting battle, played with just one player per side. The Romans had 5, that's right 5, line commands and a double time in the first 8 turns leaving the Parthians struggling to make room for their cavalry to evade. The pilum-throwing ability of the legions also proved very effective. Predictably the result was a Roman victory at 14-9 on turn 8. Artabanus and Macrinus both bit the dust.

Even so, the Parthians were led to a great renaissance against a weakened Roman right that accounted for much of their final banner count. I don't think the Romans will see a better hand for this scenario. I enjoyed the match between the very different armies. Parthians vs Romans do seem to make good scenarios.

On special rules, we played Parthian Shot but it never happened. Caltrops on the other hand snagged a block and a unit during the game.

Here's the final game state and a log file from the game:

Parthian win 14-13, after the Romans missed 2 chances to win 14-12.

2 Mounted charges led the Parthians into a lot of trouble, but an unaccountably stubborn LBC isolated behind the Roman line and survived 10 dice without a flag roll caused a great deal of suffering on the Roman side blocking evades and retreats.

Caltropes and Parthian shot rules caused no losses.
