Apologies for the late post, the games were played the previous 2 mondays but work has been insane this week.
Game 1
kwofford (Belgic Tribes) won 8 banners, killed 32 blocks
gotigersSSC (Romans) won 5 banners, killed 30 blocks
The game opened with a Belgic reorganization, then Roman missile fire followed by an advance on the left. The Belgics countercharged, driving the Romans back. The Romans then advanced on both flanks, losing a leader to to a double helmet as he crossed the river on the Roman right flank, as another Belgic countercharge threw back the advance of the Xth legion in fierce fighting. Then now leaderless Roman right advanced again, only to be met at the water's edge by the Belgics. Thrown back, the Romans were pursued and then finished off by an impetuous Belgic charge. Note that the long-odds leader kill wa decisive in this battle
Game 2
gotigersSSC (Belgic Tribes) won 5 banners, killed 23 blocks
kwofford (Romans) won 8 banners, killed 39 blocks
The game opened with a Belgic reorganization, then Roman missile fire followed by an advance on the left. This time the Belgics were able to advance on their right, but were met by the Xth legion at the river's edge. A grinding battle of attrition developed, befor the Belgics were driven back, their leader falling to missile fire with the remnants of his cavalry unit. The Romans continued to pepper the Belgic line with missile fire, as the Belgics advanced to prevent the Xth legion from crossing the river at the center-left band. After charge and counter-charge, the Romans succeeded in forcing a crossing on their right as as the Belgics advanced on their left. Another brutal battle of attrition developed, with Labenius falling along with half of the xth in the process of smashing most of the Belgic right flank. The Belgics charged on their left, only to be broken up by a counter-charge by Caesar. The Belgic warriors staged a last desparate counter-charge on their right against the battered Xth, but fell to a well-laid ambust (read: one-shotted by a HI first strike) for the final kill. Again, the early leader death (this time on the Belgic right) was decisive.
Thanks Justin for being such a good sport!
