We played this 3 times today and found that the game depends heavily on early Gaulic card luck.

I was the Gauls and got a Line Command early which helped to straighten out the massive Gaulic mess in the center but had no luck after that. My opponent kept up a steady stream light missile fire cards and frequently hit, decimating my left flank Cav. I moved units forward but ran into the Roman wall in bits and drabs and he was lucky again. Final score was a Roman victory 8-4 and it wasn't that close.

We switched sides and my opponent's luck continued. He played a Mounted Charge card, running his Cav into my left flank and scored 14 hits on 16 dice (+1 die per attack for the card and one of my units died and allowed him to advance and hit again). Then he started drawing multiple Double Time orders which allowed him to straighten out the Gaulic mass and attack my tender left flank, collapsing it. I did okay after that but got thoroughly creamed, Gaulic victory 8-4.

I demanded a rematch with me staying as the Romans. His first card play was 4 units Left and he attempted the same maneuver as before, this time killing both Bow units and only scoring 10 hits on 12 dice. This time I had a Leadership card and managed to kill the leader and one Cav unit and badly injuring his remaining Cav in exchange for 2 dead units and 2 badly injured units.
But his luck changed after that, drawing a series of Leadership cards with one leader still on the map.

I played a very Roman game, maintaining my lines and pelting him with missile fire while moving forward and rotating badly injured units out of harms way while he had to move a bunch of his units forward, have them get killed and his leader retreat to repeat the process.

Eventually my right flank swung inward and got into the action and he couldn't do anything because his leader was on the other flank. The final score was 8-6 for the Romans but it wasn't that close because Beorix swung a Cav unit around my flank and into my damaged units and killed 2 of them in the last move.
