MT60 - what would be good topic for anniversary MT?

Colleagues,

Having in mind tat we have only 3 games left in MT59, and that Open Tournament will probably start in March (as it was usually past years), would you be willing to play another MT (60!) somewhere between December and March? It will be kind of anniversary one - sixty so maybe we can think about some special theme?

1) most balanced scenarios MT (as per www.commandsandcolors.net/ancients/maps/...ario-statistics.html )
2) 8 banner scenarios (so really, minimal luck factor as game is long enough to prove who is more skilled)
3) EPIC battles MT (could be individuals or like in tennis - in pairs)
4) any other ideas...

What do you think?

I'm in for sure. I never seem to play enough Ancients. I'd like to try Epic Ancients. I never played it. But maybe not in a tournament. Given the format of the tournament, the balance of the scenarios is not too important for me but if people prefer more balanced scenarios that's fine with me.

Hi guys,
never played EPIC games online with Vassal but really enjoyed playing them with my friends.
During online plays we could suffer from Time Zone distance/differences.
I do know it will not be the same... but what about "exploding" epic scenarios in 3 different scenarios that will be linked in the end (sum VP or something similar). Maybe we could arrange more games and simulate some epic games...
Just an idea.
Let me know your thoughts about this.
Ale

I had pleasure playing Mini Tournament on EPIC scale - it was Mini Tournament 54 and we had played:
C3I21 EPIC ARGENTORATUM (357 AD)
C3I22 EPIC PARAITACENE (317 BC)
C3I20 EPIC ADRIANOPLE (378 AD)
EPIC LEUTRA -H
EPIC RAPHIA - H

Last two scenarios were "augmented" (by Brent) versions of classic battles - what was changed was introduction of hoplites and hoplite rules into them.

We played 1:1 and except for the fact it took some time, it was great fun – EPIC is completely different experience then typical CCA scenario, requires much more patience and is not so heavily dependent on leaders. And there are new cards!
I agree playing in teams could be problematic so maybe we can do it 1:1, but scenarios to be EPIC.

Some of them are not so long and can be played in reasonable time:
EPIC08 Clusium (225 BC) (10 banners)
EPIC14 Crimissos River (341 BC) (9 banners)
EPIC15 Plataea (479 BC) (10 banners)
EPIC16 Marathon (490 BC) (10 banners)
EPIC17 Leuctra (371 BC) (11 banners, but initial set-up causes immediate battle)

Epic or Regular, it does not matter.
Lets start to play. Balanced scenarios are always more fun especially for the Mini Tournaments for me.
I never tried the Epic and I would love to give a try, whereas the time zone always becomes a problem. The beauty of the CCA is that it last only up to 1 hour on average.

Regardless, Pls Count me in.

And as always, Thanking in Advance for all the great efforts you are outting to get this tournaments going.

Dear mk20366,
Would it be not better to open this discussion in the Tournaments section of the Forum rather than the Maps>other Maps section. Some of the interested parties might not be following this section of the forum.

Epic scenarios take 2-3 hours to play, even 1 on 1.
I'm happy to set up a Mini-Tournament, Epic or otherwise, but I think people should realistically consider the seasonal holidays and the length of Epic games.

That being said, there are some great Epic scenarios, well balanced and interesting renditions of old favourites. However, Marathon isn't one of them. The extended width of the map makes it impossible to replicate the double envelopment that historically occurred.

As a kind of wacky alternative, the possibility of a Roman Civil War knockout tournament is something I've been idly considering.
Rather than historical scenario, each player gets an identical army (or maybe identical with options) that they they setup in the closest 3 hexrows. The winner moves to the next round, and the loser is knocked out (maybe to a playoff group).
