Forest Terrain & Move-Fire-Move

The rules state that a unit moving onto a Forest hex may not move any further that TURN:
This is staed in the rulebook, and also on this site at  www.commandsandcolors.net/ancients/the-g...ins/1067-forest.html .

So, my assumption is that a unit issued a Move-Fire-Move order which moves onto a Forest hex during the first part of the order cannot move in the second part of the order.  Is this correct?

Contrary to my initial expectation, apparently the unit can move into forest/fordable river, fire, and then move again

The best way to think of what is happening when the Move Fire Move card is played is to consider and treat the two movements allowed by the card, as two separate moves. So after stopping for the woods or fordable river, ordered light units could move again on the second move. (Richard Borg)

I too had already read that piece from Richard.  However, if you look at the Fordable River more closely, the rules provide for a momentum advance AFTER close combat.  There is no such provision made for Forest hexes.  In the Forest hex rule, it specifically refers to TURN, whereas for Fordable Rivers it simply says you must stop when moving onto such a hex.  So, either this is very bad (ie inconsistent) rule writing, or the intention is to prevent further movement of any kind.

In the Move-Fire-Move rule, it might have been good to have included a sentence where this order supercedes other terrain rules.  Since it doesn't, I assume no further movement is allowed in the turn.

Having said that, an official ruling from Richard himself would be very useful, coupled with an adjustment to the Living Rules.

Tony, not sure what Momentum advance has to do with Move-Fire-Move

The Borg answer seems very specific to me, but can be read in full here

That's what I was after, thanks Mark.

Frankly, he should change his wording to , "You should think about it as two separate TURNS", since the card rules stipulate no further movement this turn, but I know that's rules lawyering a bit.
Cheers

In terms of momentum advance, you can momentum advance after stopping and battling in a fordable river hex, but you cannot when you stop in a forest hex.  That's ther basic difference, and thereofre why I wondered if there was a difference for Move-Fire-Move as well.
