Elephants and ranged combat from LC or LBC

Hi everyone !
May Elephants ignore the 1st hit from missiles fired by LC or LBC ? In the rules, it's noted that elephants can ignore one hit (Red Square) from Cavalry attacks.
For ourselves, we are thinking that this rule is only applied in close combat.
Are we right ?

Yes, indeed, it's only in Close Combat.
