I find this period quite interesting and I have just finished reading "Mithridates the Great" by Philip Matyszak. I fancied doing one of the battles therein and as the Battle of Protopachium hadn't been done by anyone yet, I chose that.
The map in the book for the battle of Chaeronea is quite detailed so I am also having a go at that. It's been done twice already but my map will be substantially different. My OB is basically from the battle in the GBOH Dictator module.
The book mentions war machines behind the Roman lines on slightly rising ground so that they could fire over the Roman lines at the Pontics but this isn't possible in C&C even if you put them on a hill. I thought I would make a special rule that they can fire through units but lose lose one attack dice for doing so?
It is a shame that GMT have done no battles from the Mithridatic wars and are only doing Tigranocerta in expansion #4. I think the semi hellenic eastern armies are fascinating with phalanx units together with cataphract cavalry, chariots, horse archers and easten light/auxillia levies.
