C&C Campaigns was created by Maimed
We play C&C Ancients with 1/72 Figs or 15mm.
We play all the battles in a Expansion as a Campaign.

How do you guys do campaigns?

Cheers
Mike

I have being running one with free kreigsspiel with 3 friends of mine. Myself as the umpire running the 83-82BC civil war.
1 player as Sulla the other 2 as the consuls for the year submitting orders by email.
The campaign map is a rough map of Italy with the major highways marked the only rules need for this is how fast/far troops can march in a day.
When 2 armies meet on the campaign map I generate the ancients battlefield and rules for additional troops arriving usually after a set number of cards played.

So far we have had 4 battles and are half way through the second campaign turn

Hi David,
I'm too interested in this kind of "campaign system".
If you tell us some more... we could even create a new "variant" area in the website dedicated to your Campaign system
Actually is missing :-)

This is a great site with alot of details about Kriegsspeil. www.kriegsspiel.org.uk/

Generating the Battle field its best to go with what you think fits based on the camapign orders of the players and the location.

The campaign map of Italy I use has major towns (these are the key locations that need to be held or taken) as well as major highways rivers mountains and forest areas.
For attacking accross a defended river just have the defender set up behind a river that runs accross the entire board.

If the fight takes place in an forest area have some trees on the field a few groups of 2-5 forest hex at different points to brake up lines.
Hills can be different as a line of hills accross the field works great if one side has set up along a ridge but other battles are possible. Like the last campaign battle in a narrow mountain pass for this I marked two rows of impassible hills along the flank sections the pass at its narrowest was 5 hexes wide.

There is likly a historic battle in the game that matches the battle that you need to generate use that as a guide line.

As for the additional forces this only becomes an issue if one player has a second legion within a day’s march of the battlefield he can then send a dispatch rider and order this second legion to march towards the battlefield.

Battles usually last between 15 to 30 turns a turn being each player playing one card. There is not set time to card ratio as a card used to order skirmish fire is less time than one used to order a large infantry advance I usually set a number of turns before the battle depending on distance away on the campaign map a few miles less than 20 would be 5 turns and the add 2 or 3 if the opening is just skirmishing.

For over half a day’s march it should be 20 plus turns without any addition these troops will arrive near the end to prevent a rout or pursue the next day.

To make umpiring easier I made each legion be 4 medium infantry 2 auxiliary infantry 2 light infantry and 2 medium cavalry and 1 general for the commander.
Each commander is always named. Historical name for major commanders of the war and provincial governors but lesser officer names can be generated I used the name file from Rome total war.

Each legion can be given further changes to make things different such as heavy infantry instead of medium to represent veteran troop’s companion cavalry for elite veteran cavalry. Warriors instead of auxiliaries for legions from the less civilised parts of the empire. Archers instead of lights for eastern legions and slingers for light for legions from Spain.
For legions from the African provinces I replaced both the medium cavalry and auxiliaries with light cavalry.

To determine victory conditions each legion was given morale points between 4 and 6
At the start of the battle each player roles a d3 and adds the result to the morale points given (x=d3) when x units are lost the legion is shaken when x=d3 units are lost the legion is broken. The consuls or Sulla add 1 to the d3 if they are on the field still max 3 so if a 3 is rolled this bonus is lost.
If more than 1 legion is on a side morale is calculated as the highest legions morale + half the second highest rounded down.

Rules for shaken units below full strength (3 or less for infantry 2 or less for cavalry 1 for artillery) may not move closer to an enemy unit and when engaged in close combat must evade if possible. A unit with a general attached to it can ignore this and is treated as if it were at full strength.

Rules for broken
When a legion is broken it must in addition to the rules for shaken, no unit may move closer to the enemy (i.e. those still at full strength are no longer able to move closer to the enemy. Half (rounded up) the orders issued from a command card must be spent moving under strength units back towards their side of the board. A unit at or below have strength when charged (attacked in close combat) surrenders and is removed as a casualty.

At any time during a battle either player may withdraw by moving troops off his edge of the battlefield

I think that your "unit selection" for creating a legion is really good!
It looks great!

wow that look great.
I do feel that an elite Legion , could have +1 , +2, +3 red (heavy infantry) not just the whole lot being elite.
maybe a veteran clould have 1 red infantry and 3 blue infatry or 2 red and 2 blue infantry , but maybe 2 would already be and elite Legion.
what do you think?

Cheers
