Roman miniatures representation

Hi all,

I´m finishing my own C&C table to play the game with 28mm minis and scenery.
I have whole lots of unpainted figures (as any self respected wargamer does!) and was planning on painting them now for the game.

I´m having trouble choosing the minis to be adapted to the C&C troops, and I would appreciate any corrections.
I´m starting slow with the Bagradas scenario to build the bulk of the force.

L: Velites
M: Principes and Hastatii
A: Not sure about this one. Spanish or Thracian allies maybe?
W: Germanic or gallic allies?
H: Triarii

LC: Numidian or spanish cavalry?
MC: Equites
HC: Equites again?

Thanks in advance!

Thanks Alessandro, those threads are quite useful, and they have Carthaginian troops as well.

About the minis, I´m a very big fan of Hat´s plastics. However, I have been a "painting service" a few years ago and have more than enough metal 28mm figures.

Thanks again for the fast reply.

I just finished researching all manufacturers of 28mm figures to create Republican Roman and Carthaginain armies. The best manufcaturers that I found were:

Crusader
Foundry
Gripping Beast
A&A Miniatures

I rejected:
Renegade Miniatures (beautiful, but a bit too big...they look like giants)
Magister Militum (They are a bit too small, but could be used in a tight spot)

I tried to pick exactly the right minis for each unit type for the 2nd Punic War. I am basing them on 1" x 1" for infantry and 1" x 2" for Cavalry.

Side Note: I am also creating a tabletop version of the game that will use these figures as well in addition to 4" x 2" bases (4 figures permanently based in the front rank and the 4 individually based figures in the back row. The casualties will be taken from the back row until all 4 are gone. The remaining front rank piece is used as the 'flag' for Victory Point tracking. The table is my 4' x 8' wargaming table and will have a matt with extra large 6" hexes. Cavalry is one permanently mounted figure on the right with the removable figures placed on the base to the left. Elephants are one Elephant with 2 figures in the Howdah (one for each casualty).

Here are my army lists

With this great list by Glen I've decided to open a new Forum section dedicated to miniatures... as lots of players wuold like to see "real miniatures" on the table during playing.
:-)

I've opened a single thread for each unit (LI, LC, MI, HI, ....) and all the threads are grouped by Army (Romans, Carthaginians, ...)

For the moment you could browse 28mm miniatures but we could add some more scales in the future.

I would definitely like to see these threads for 20mm (1:72) plastics! I am currently building out my armies in this scale and there are a lot of good sculpts out there at a much smaller cost than 28mm.

This scale is great because four side-by-side minis will generally fit nicely in the the hex of a CC:A board.

I am also working on a magnetic basing system that allows you to move a 4 fig group easily without it being so "fiddly".

Hi!
I invite you to post the "result" of your research. (manufacturer/article code/website)
So we could populate another section of this forum (dedicated to 20mm 1/72 armies)
:-)

I think the community will also be really greatful to see a "tutorial" on how to build this magnetic besing system... or at least I will be. :-)
