1st Slave war (aka 1st Servile war).

We all know about Spartacus and the third slave war and there are plenty of battles involving him. We also have a battle from the 2nd slave war (see Scirthaea from Exp 2). So it intrigued me to investigate the 1st slave war. This had a very similar story to the 2nd war. They were both on Sicily and they both had two uprisings that joined together under one leader. Indeed the history of slave revolts on the island may well have been the motivation for Spartacus to try and sail there?

The historical background already discusses my rationale for the Roman OOB, in fact if I hadn't followed that reasoning there was no real battle to show. The slave army at 20,000 was almost identical in size to the army at Scirthaea, so my slave OOB follows the official GMT one quite closely. The location or terrain of the battle is unknown

Isara River.

I have assumed that as the Gauls retreated over the Rhone via their own bridges that they were fighting with that river behind them. I have not included the bridges, or rules pertaining to them, as I assume that the Gauls only used their bridges after their army was routed which in game terms occurs after the Romans obtain their 7th victory banner. I have also surmised that as the elephants in Domitias' army were apparently so successful at Vindalium, that he would have left these for Maximus when his own army departed for Italy.

Last Phalanx Victory.

Not much to say about this one. The location is unknown, but I am assuming that as it occurred near the Macedonian border, and that the Romans were linking up with Greek allies most probably from the south, that the Romans would be marching on Macedonia north along the Aegean coast and that the battle is somewhere near the Macedonian/Thessallian border.

The Macedonian OOB has the Thracians on their left and Macedonians/Greeks mercenaries on their right. The Romans are on their left and the Greek allies on the Roman right.

Crotona and Tunis.

These are fairly straight conversions form the GBoH series. The Crotona set up comes out quite compacted in the centre so I have spread this out a little for C&C purposes. Likewise I have given Tunis a more C&C look as per my notes on Cabala.

Well that's it for now. The next five battles, which are all finished, will be 2nd Pynda 148BC to complete the 4th Macedonian war, Noreia 113BC, Lilybaeum 276BC, Nepheris 149BC and Muthul River 109BC.

I would really like to also do Cirta 106BC from the Jugurthine war but I don't have the GBoh scenario. When GMT did the new SPQR deluxe they replaced Cirta with Great Plains and I have been unable to obtain the old Jugurtha module, so if anyone could help me it would be much appreciated.

I am in debt to all scenario writers and find the insights into your historical research and scenario design fascinating.

Thank you very much for your efforts and I'll certainly be playing them soon!
